Starting as a Freshman, my daughter decided she was going to join the Army.  "Nope," I said, "you do not join the Army until you have researched the other branches first.  That way, you can see what options are available to you."

So, it was the Army info in her Freshman year.  Air force in her Sophmore year, Marines (for about 3 weeks and that was a flat out NO for her), in her Junior year and finally the Navy in her senior year.  She opted for the Navy.

She started the recruiting process in March, after the ASVAB test in JROTC. After graduation in May, she went off to MEPS and completely goofed up her medical......she stated that she had been unconscious at one time when she had not....soooo, long story short, we had to get medical records and a plethora of other items, letters stating she had NEVER been unconscious.

Somewhere along the line, she got forgotten.  So, she decided on the Army.  Got everything switched from Navy to Army....months of waiting, and now we wait again....during this time, she started getting depressed and she ate.  Gained 6 pounds OVER the limit.....bought a treadmill and 3 months later, all is well.....back to MEPS.  Cleared medical, cleared EVERYTHING, had her job picked out.  FAILED the personality test.

So, she has a choice: wait one year and try the test again, or go with another branch of the military.  Well, she opted to go back to see what the Navy could do for her.  Switched everything back to the Navy and off to MEPS....3 times.  Cleared medical, cleared everything, but no jobs available that she wanted.  The recruiters finally found a job for her.  it wasn't the one that she was hoping for, but she says she is okay with it and might be able to get a different job.  Just got back from MEPS yesterday and she was there ALL DAY!!!  But she did get to swear in and she is now a certified, official, NAVY RECRUIT!

It took 9 months for my daughter to get into the military and I am so happy for her.  But, along the same lines, I am deeply saddened because she is my baby.  I have always told my children "until you spread your wings, you never know how high or how far you can fly".

Now it is time for her to NOT BE little sister to 4 sisters and a brother.  It is time for her to go find out who she really is.  And I want to thank the Navy for giving her that opportunity!  She leaves in April, but I sit here blubbering like an idiot (one should NOT deal with major life changes whlie in the throes of menopause....it just stinks!)  Can you imagine how bad this is going to be when she leaves???  Thanks for listening, I didn't mean to be so longwinded!!

So, what was the "I swear to uphold the constitution of the US against all enemies, both foregin and domestic..."?  That wasn't a swearing in?

No kidding???  I had no clue.  Not that she would back out, but I think I'll keep that little tidbit of information to myself!  Thank you for that!
