Hello! I posted this in a Nuke girlfriends/wives page, but I also wanted to put it on the general discussion page since there is more than one Nuke page.

My fiance is currently in A school in Goose Creek for the Nuke program (ET), but he got there recently so we have a lot of unanswered questions. He will be getting briefs this week and then he'll have time off for close to two weeks in which we'll be getting married (12/23/2013). He has already gone in and filled out all of the paperwork for the base housing he can right now and we are planning on faxing our marriage license over pretty much as soon as possible. Does anyone know how fast Balfour Beatty is at getting the housing approved? I would like to move asap since we weren't told how anything would be working out and I've been just waiting around for news for around a month-month and a half. He wrote on the paper he would like a unit ready by 04/01/2014 but we're not sure if that's realistic. I have also seen other people talking about programs or things that they need to do (DEERS, etc) so I'm not sure what all of that would entail. We haven't been told about anything like that or marriage counseling. I feel quite confused.

Thanks!! :)

Once you are married, he needs to enroll you in DEERS before anything else can happen.  Faxing over your marriage license won't work, you have to be in DEERS.   He can do that while he's on leave at the nearest military facility, which you can find using the RAPIDS locator, just google it.  You should both go together, so you can get an ID at the same time.  You'll need current ID, plus your SSN, and it doesn't hurt to have your birth certificate.

DEERS is the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System.  You cannot be recognized as a dependent without being in it.  I'm guessing the people at Goose Creek housing are just being nice.  I'm surprised they let him fill out any paperwork at all while he's single.  That's very unusual, just so no one else thinks this can be done at other bases.

Congrats!

Ok, thanks! We have never been told anything about DEERS (and my fiance was in DEP for nearly a year) so I was confused about that. My fiance said that for Goose Creek, as a wife when I would be moving, I would have briefs myself, but I'm not even sure what's included in that. As for faxing the marriage license in, the housing people told my fiance that we could fax in the certificate so we could get approved for base housing... But we'll see! Hurry up and wait! :)

Thanks! :)
