Having a hard day. He's been gone for 11 days now and no letter saying how to write to him. I don't want him to think I'm not writing or sending him letters or even thinking about him because I am!  Very sad. Also, read on the "letter writing" section that some people were glad they did not encounter their birthday during bootcamp. My son's birthday is in two weeks and this kind of concerned me. Any experiences anyone can share regarding this?

texasgirl, Check your My Page.

My son left March 25th. I've written him twice. I just got his first letter yesterday, his hand-written letter (other than the informational letter they send with graduation date) but in that letter he stated he hadn't received any letters from me. I'm wondering how often they're receiving letters? I'm missing him too. Sundays are when they can write, iron, shine shoes, etc. and this is from 6am to noon. They eat very well. Have plenty of fresh veggies & fruit. Yet training is quite intense as we already knew. Hang in there. Pray!!! :)

It is common for the recruits to indicate in that first letter that they have not gotten mail. They usually have not had many Mail Calls at that point and often the ones with letters in those Mail Calls are the ones whose loved ones live close to the RTC or from those who got the address from the recruiter instead of waiting on the form letter as we are asked to do. See Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.

My son left on his birthday.  Nothing out of the ordinary happened.  I wrote a note once a week and just waited to mail them until I got his address.  Jacob actually is pretty indepdendent and said he didn't want letters before he left, but that changed.  When he made his first phone call, about 2 weeks in (so should be soon for you), he said some guys get 10 letters a day and others get none.  It was clear he didn't want to be in either spot. You will feel so much better after a phone call.  Just know he's experiencing a lot of change.  That's stressful, but it won't hurt him.  There were a couple of videos I saw about BC online that helped me because then I at least knew what my son was going through each week.  If you're interested let me know and I'll find the website.

MN Mama, NVmama here, yes I would love the website address

It's a Youtube series of 4 videos.  Just go to Youtube and search for Navy Boot Camp PT I, Navy Boot Camp PT II, etc.  By looking at a few I could see what they had in common to know what's "real".  I guess it made me see while it doesn't look fun, there is method to the madness and the intention is to teach, not just yell for the sake of yelling.

Yes please send me the link to the website to see what he is going thru that would help...I appreciate it so much :)

There are links that will give you a general idea of what is happening within Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

STEP 2VIDEOS from Navy.mil All Hands Television. Watch the five videos. PIR stands for Pass In Review (Graduation From Boot  Camp). Again, be patient.  You'll feel like you know exactly what your son/daughter will be going through.

hi Proud.

my daughter SR day 7 today.  yesterday we got her address from the recruiter, she has her ship now. I sent a letter today.  call his recruiter they will have his address.   My daughter's bday is next week. we celebrated her birthday and easter before she shipped out so I would not feel bad on her bday.  Your son is doing great!!! don't worry

RTC asks that you "please wait until you receive your Recruit’s official address via mail."
