Hi All,

My daughter is leaving to boot camp in July.Everyday that passes I dread the day is creeping up way to quick. I hate this feeling I have I spoke to her about joining the Military since she was young believing this was the best choice for her. Now that the time is coming im coming to regret all of that. I cry ever day im scared, sad and confused. She is my one and only daughter and we are super close. I try so hard to be strong but I cry all the time. I cherish all the time we have together and I am so proud of her but its so hard. I know I am not the only one who is going through this and feel foolish at times for crying. I just needed to vent sorry I dont know what to do anymore....

Check your My Page. I left info on groups to join.

Confused mom... I too encouraged it and now I would like to go get him and bring him home! It is a terrible feeling! You are not alone! When I start feeling down I just try to remember what an opportunity this is for him to spread his wings and fly! Sometimes it works and then sometimes I lay on his bed and cry! Even though I dont know you ....I am truly sorry you are hurting!
Sending prayers and well wishes your way today and forever Jojo! I promise your daughter will relieve your fears everytime she accomplishes PIR,A School training and adaptation to their new environments. I felt the same because I didn't know what was happening to my son everyday. Your heart will swell with pride everytime she contacts you to tell you! I tell everyone, your heart will be at ease when you know they're safe, healthy and happy!
No your not alone. My son just went to boot camp on May 12th. Everyone wanted to know how i was doing. I had a come to Jesus meeting with myself and realized that he is doing what he wanted to do, they are in a structured enviroment, food, clothing, and a roof over their heads. So i can sleep good at night for now. Look at it this way, now you have the opportunity to travel Allll over the world to visit now. Good Luck!

TRAVEL!!

My wife has visited our daughter at Great Lakes IL, Meridian MS, San Diego CA, Pascagoula,MS, Galveston TX, Thurmont MD, Pensacola FL, San Angelo TX, Manama Bahrain (!) and Everett WA. And taken a 2000 mile road trip across the American West,  You can still be part of your daughter's great adventure. Oh, the places you'll go!

I only got to do about half those trips. Someone has to stay home and earn a paycheck to afford all that travel. :(

:o)

Confused Mom,
I was in a very similar situation over 10 years ago now except it was my one and only son. You planted a seed years ago, as did I, and when we plant those seeds we see something in our children that makes us believe this will be in their best interest. Now that you are regretting this seed and she has taken the reins you need to rest assured she will be fine. I understand exactly how you feel, my son now has 10 years in, is married, loves his job, has traveled and has become a man better than I could have dreamed for (except the lack of contact, he doesn't return call, lol). But he is and will continue to flourish. Once your daughter gets to basic, in Great Lakes, she will write to you and tell you of her struggles, accomplishments and the great friendships she is making, those will be friends for life. My son went to Hawaii 3 years in and I didn't see him very much but when I was able to go and see him, I met the AMAZING, group of people in his life, they create their own family out of need and comradery, those people showed me around for the 23 days I was there and are now a part of my family! But after the time in Basic, I highly recommend you go to her graduation and see the amazing young woman who will now serve our amazing country and this will be your opportunity through her to meet some amazing young folks she will serve her years with and who will remain lifelong friends. I understand your concern, your regret and your apprehension but that all belongs to you... Rise up and she all of the support you can muster, cry behind closed doors, talk to your friends but don't discourage her or make her feel guilty because she made a great decision for herself... I am sorry I am being so forthright but I am trying to get you to understand all you have is to support her decision... Take stock in the fact you raised an amazing young woman who with the Navy's help will be a shinning star and one of Americas great military... I understand your pain and your questioning but she has made up her mind... Go with her choice you will not regret it, honest!

Well said.

Thank you!  I meant every single word.

:o)

Do check your My Page.

By the way, I forgot to tell you I cried everyday for 2 months after my son left...then I went to his graduation and cried bursting with pride... I HAVE NEVER regretted the decision since of planting that seed, in fact it doesn't ever cross my mind... You are not crazy, your child is going off in a big big world but just remember who she is and how she got there... Because if you! Tell her how proud you are and just hug her and love her until she goes to basic, then wait to see what an amazing woman she becomes in a very short time!
