Hey Girl,
Don't be hard on yourself for your feelings. NavyForMoms is just for people like you (and me!) to find the encouragement we need to be able to share encouragement with our babies who are growing into sailors! Boot Camp is the hardest time - because communication is limited, but take heart: when it's over, e-mail, facebook, and phone call communication will return back to full speed! And the Navy's basic training set is so much shorter than the Army's 13-week version.
The Navy is going to hand your daughter so many keys to success... Military background that looks excellent on all resumes, lots of training, help paying for school, and TONS of self-confidence. You've guided her to it for many reasons of your own - don't lose sight of them now.
Enjoy the time you have with her right now and don't worry about the future. Each day holds enough challenges of its own. Please don't be too hard on yourself for your emotions, and remember: she'll always be your little girl - the Navy isn't going to change that. It sounds like your bond is strong and it will stay that way.
Jojo1976, I am there right with you, My daughter Samantha will be leaving June 18, I'm crying but happy for her at the same time. She joined DEP last summer so its been a long journey. Today is a very hard day because she graduated High School last night so now there is nothing to distract me from her leaving in June. We are very close and she is my best friend. THANK YOU NAVYFORMOMS. This site has been the only thing keeping me sane.
This has been the worst thing I have ever gone through- what helps me is researching what my son will be doing every day- I also try and mock his training in the gym- does anyone know when I get a letter from him and his address- he has been gone for ten days- got the box but nothing elce
It's ok to cry its your release. I've been a Navy mom for 30 yrs my oldest son was in special ops his job was to insert and extract his SEAL team after boot I had no idea where he was half the time. My youngest son followed him but went surface on those big gray ships he is now 4 yrs from a 30 yr retirement. I have been in his pocket as he traveled the world. Followed him on a world map with his letters and emails. Saw the Arctic Circle with him The Holy Lands Spain France Italy Egypt and 18 months of Afghan. As Navy moms we grow to be stronger every day as our sailors go about their duties we are the strongest women next to wives/husbands our sailors have. You are joining a great group we are the best because we loaned the Navy our best.
