Moving to Norfolk- PLEASE HELP! IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE HELP!!! We are trying to set up our move from Illinois to Virginia. My husband had to report to VA on the 1st, and we haven't moved our stuff yet due to the fact that I am having a c section on the 25th. We were told by the PPO office at Great Lakes that we didn't have a time frame to set up our move, that we could do it whenever. So now we are trying to set up our move, and the PS on my hubby's ship is telling him that we have to pay for the move 100% out of our pockets and then we will be reimbursed within a month or two. I am FREAKING out. I was told by several people that we would get the DLA and 60% of the move amt upfront? and now we are expected to come up with all this money? Does anyone know about this??? I am 36 weeks pregnant and seriously stressing! advice please!!!

We moved from Balersfield ca to vancouver Wa before my husband shipped out to bootcamp but he still left from Bakersfield to bootcamp. So meps records show Bakersfield and everything else I wa. We have been receiving bah to wa as well.
We are being told that we will only get a paid move from Bakersfield to our new duty station and MAYBE will be rembursed in full after he report to his duty station.
This is the only situation I have heard not being covered and paid for.

From what I understand this is correct. Whether or not you receive advance funds for the move is up to command. They will reimburse you, yes, but they do not have to pay up front... Although I have never actually heard of a command not providing advance DLA. He does have to put in a chit to request it about 2-3 weeks prior to your move date. It is only a request though, it has to go through his chain of command and can be approved or denied like any other chit. You can look into the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society for an interest free loan. Has he talked to someone in his department, like his LPO or Chief? They may be able to direct him as to what steps he needs to take. Often my husband has found his direct supervisors are more helpful than those not in his department.

Deep breath!  Go to my profile page, look at my blog and read the one about our DITY.  Obviously after a c-section you're probably not doing a DITY, but read over the part about MOVE.mil.  You can set up your own move from there.  If you have questions, call the PPO at his new duty station, they are the ones approving the paperwork.  Get all your answers from the horses mouth, so to speak.  

BTW, congrats!  I'm 36 weeks too!

Actually, we are doing a PPM simply because all of our stuff is already packed into storage. I called the PPO office today and was surprised to find out that apparently something changed on April 30th that says that the Navy no longer gives advances for DLA, per diem, or 60% of the move up front for your first and last PCS. We are required to put 100% out of our pockets up front and then will be reimbursed once the move is complete.

Even if your stuff is in storage they can move it for you, it its easier. Just an FYI, I know some girls don't know they will do that. They are supposed to repack everything even if they do it that way but the company that did mine didn't repack because.. well I am so type a personality I had every box numbered and I had a detailed inventory of everything in every box lol.
