For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I know exactly how you feel. I'm not so nervous or anxious like I was when my son first signed into DEP because I have learned so much from this website. However, I have plenty of emotional outbursts that catch me when I least expect it. A song will come on the radio, or I will think about my son not being home for something etc and I start crying. Sometimes I think I'm going crazy, but I know I'm not the only one feeling this way.
My son leaves in 5 days and the thought of his last night sleeping in his bed just tears me up inside and I can literally feel my heartstrings being tugged. I know my son will do GREAT and I'm so excited for him to start his next journey. But it's going to be hard with him gone too. He has a twin brother who will be going to a local college, so I don't have a completely empty nest, but it will still have a big void in it. Our whole life is changing and it's all unchartered territory for us. All I can do is put my trust in God and rely on all the support from other Navy Moms who have been through this before me. That does seem to help me feel a little more in control of all that is happening and helps calm me down.
Just keep thinking about how proud your son is going to make you when he has PIR and becomes a Sailor. It's going to be AMAZING! That is what keeps me going. We just have to tell ourselves that every day.

I've had so many emotional outbursts too. My son leaves on 7/9 and it hit me hard yesterday. Like you said, a song will come on or I think about his last night sleeping in his bed and I start crying. His birthday is in August and knowing I can't even call him on his bday kills me. But this is something he's been wanting to do for a couple of years now and I take comfort in knowing that he's following his heart; he's doing this for himself and it will be awesome!
This is brand new territory for us as well. But having this site has helped and I've learned a lot of useful information.
Thank you to all you Navy Moms for sharing your experiences. It helps to know that I'm not alone.

My son is leaving on the 9th also. Well, I should say we take him to the recruiters office on the 9th but he will not fly out until the 10th to GL. I'm wanting to spend as much time with him as possible and he is wanting to spend time with friends and his girlfriend..So, I'm just sitting back and letting him have his time...

That's what we decided to let our son do too Tanya. In fact, he just got home from ba 4-day road trip with his buddies. I figure this is the last bit of freedom he will have for a while so why not let him create memories that will make him happy. We've had our special moments too, so we don't feel too left out.

My son leaves July 8th from Denver Colorado. I don't think reality has set in yet. I know the first week he is gone will be the hardest.

My daughter leaves tomorrow. She stays in a hotel tonight and takes her final oath tomorrow morning. She is very ready for this. I have been pretty good at holding back emotion (at least in front of her). I believe in her choice and know it's the right thing for her to do. I am extremely proud of her and know she will do well. That doesn't make it any easier as a Mom, waiting to hear from her. It will be tough, but I have my little guys to keep me busy. :)
