I am sitting at home all alone - and missing my boy more  than ever. It has been almost 2 weeks since he left. I mailed off my first letter to him today!  I can not wait till I receive my first letter from him! How is everyone coping? I feel like I am struggling. There are so many changes going on right now in my life - not just my son joining the Navy.   Since he left, I have been trying to keep myself busy, but sometimes I just fall apart. Is that ok to allow myself to do that? I have to be strong for my other kids - but sometimes it is so hard. I guess I am asking for some words of encouragement! Any words would be nice! Thank you!

Yes, it's fine to fall apart every now and then. Just don't stay there. Showers are great places for that. You will get used to the new normal and getting that first "real" letter next week may help (remember though that the first letter from a recruit may indicate things aren't going so well--don't worry; it will get better).

You raised an amazing young man who is pursuing his dreams. Stay busy, stay connected with others going through the same thing (join your PIR group as well), stay informed (there's a lot of info in the Pages in this group and in your PIR group), stay there for the ones who are still at home by being involved with them, and stay involved with your SR by writing encouraging letters (see Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit for ideas).

(((((hug))))) that's a cyber hug from one Navy Mom to another.

Thank you! It helps talking to other moms who are going through the same thing! I'll try the shower! LOL

:o)

Check your My Page.

Sorry you are having such a hard day. : (
Focus on those at home and have some great summer fun!

Thanks!

Hi Rough Night....what you are feeling is completely normal, feeling so happy and proud of your Recruit one minute, then crying the next. It is hard on us moms....we raised our kids to be responsible, independent people but when they get there, now what? They still need our support, just in a different way. I can honestly say I am closer to my Marine son now, even tho he is across the country. It will be the same with my SR. Give yourself time to feel sad but don't dwell on it. Journal, write those letters and take care of yourself. This is a new chapter in our life. (((Hugs)))

Babs -

Aeast i remember feeling that way vividly. It was just about the two week mark when i started feeling better. There is a light at the end of that tunnel! I had to train myself to focus on other things. If you leave your mind "unattended", it will default back to the most emotional thing it can think of without your even realizing it. i started reading everything i could get my hands on, including this website. Found alot of new authors that love! And i stayed on here with my collection of other miserable moms talking things out. It really does get so much better very quickly! More cyber hugs!

Thanks! It is nice to have support from other moms!

Awe, Sweet Mommy. It will be okay. It gets better. I have been there. My son has been through boot camp and has been in school for a while now. I miss him so much! They are doing important work for our country. You are proud, I am sure.

yes I am very proud of him! I am going to hang in there. Thank you!
