For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Anyone arriving to GL on 7/9/14?
My daughter arrived yesterday. She was having a hard time leaving home. We got our call at 8:47pm. She was trying to stay strong when she called. It's going to be a long 3 weeks. Anyone out there with same arrival date? How were they feeling?

My son left on the 8th, we received his mailing information today. My son got a girlfriend 3 months before leaving and I think she made things worse, he was distant and teary eyed at the hotel. He asked her not to come to the final swearing in and he seemed more calm and confident after he met some people he was shipping out with. The call was 20 seconds, he seemed robotic (I heard it is scripted and they are probably watching). I heard the first week is tough and then week 4 they get extremely homesick but after they pass those hurdles it only gets better for them.

We did not do "the box" he donated everything he wore. His recruiter called and gave us the mailing information today.

Reasons to wait on The Form Letter before mailing letters:
1. The PAO at the RTC asks that loved ones wait on the form letter before mailing letters. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/fam_guide.asp.
2. The recruiter does not always give the right address and letters that do not have the correct address may be returned or may be delayed several weeks in getting to your recruit since it will not be a high priority for those in the mail room to look up the correct information.
3. Even if you do have the correct information, your recruit will not receive letters that are mailed before receiving the form letter much quicker, if at all, than letters mailed after receiving the form letter because recruits do not receive mail until they are in their permanent ship and a Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained. The first Mail Call is on day 1-3 or 1-4 DOT.
***If it has been at least 2 calendar weeks since your SR arrived at the RTC and you don't have the form letter, then yes, it is fine to get the address from the recruiter and send letters. Double-check the info against that at http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp or Ship/Division--How it Works.

The Form Letter will arrive by regular mail an average of 10 days after your recruit arrived at the RTC.

My son also arrived yesterday, I got the call from him around 8:15PM. My son seemed very happy and excited, me well that's another story. I've cried so much I can't believe I'm not dehydrated. Now anxiously awaiting the box and form letter.

My daughter also arrived yesterday, 7/10. She called around 5:35, and sounded really good! Just said she was ready to get moving. Hope she continues that thought process throughout RTC! I wonder if they will be in the same division/group (not sure what they call it!)
