OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My son just got his date to leave for BC in October 2014. Haven't seen any posts since 2013 on this board. Looking for others that are finding there way here with same dates?

My son departs for BC October 2nd. Counting 9 Fridays it would place his PIRon the 28th Day of November. I have read what possibility you had written that, PIR is possible on the Wednesday prior to the holiday. Do you know what has occurred in the past year or two, around this specific time?

PIR is most likely 11/26/2014 (PIR is ALWAYS on Wednesday of Thanksgiving week), but since he is arriving on a Thursday and more recruits arrive in the fall, it is possible that PIR could be 15/05/2014 if he is one of the unlucky ones to have 10 Fridays instead of the typical 9. You will have to wait on the form letter to know for sure. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.
If he were unlucky enough to have PIR 12/05/2014, he would be eligible for the Thanksgiving Adopt A Sailor program.

Goofytroll - after reading your post, I too, am the same way...I'm a planner and would love to have my family's "ducks in a row" - due to Thanksgiving Day falling around PIR. However, I hear that "flexibility" is key and recommended. So, I'm trying to have an open mind and remain calm about so many things.

My daughter goes to MEPS san Jose atea 9.30 and leaves for boot 10.1. We are also in limbo regarding PIR date around holiday as it will depend on length of in prossessing when they all get there. So we are planning on PIR anywhere from day before Thanksgiving to Dec. 5

My son is leaving Oct 1. This is so hard bcuz he lives in Atlanta and I live in PA. Trying to find help and support from this website since I won't be able to be with him when leaves. I will see him mid September but then that's it until graduation so I am trying to figure all this out.
