my son also shipped on Wednesday......i got the call about 8:15pm Wednesday night that he was on base.   He also sounded tired but good.   I have been a emotionaly mess since.   I know everyday will get a little better.

Thanks for the encouraging words....much appreciated

Leslee, first, very nice to "meet" you!  Second, I know what you mean with the emotions...  one minute I feel like I'm doing great and I'm so excited for my SR; the next I'll hear a song (Come Sail Away) or see something and I'm missing my boy so much.  I am very blessed to have a friend who keeps me updated on what our SRs are going through and experiencing each day.  I am also blessed with three other kids who keep me busy (distracted?).  Mostly I am just so proud of my SR; but it's still tough some times.  I have started keeping a journal of every detail from dropping him off at the recruiter's to swearing in to the phone call...  it helps me stay focused and in control and I think he'll appreciate it when he looks back on all he's done.  We'll try to stay strong together!  Happy Sunday!

Our guy also left Wrdnesday and we got the call last night. Excited for him and overwhelmed realizing he will head out from there for his six years, guess we are realizing tha he is truly gone from home! Thinking about him often!

Our son shipped Wed 7/9/14. Last we heard from him was a text from Chicago O'hare saying he landed, all good and that they would be getting their bus in about 45 minutes. We never got a call home. Phone never rang. I can only assume his cell phone battery died, and they likely needed to borrow a phone. My son is a pretty shy and quiet kid, so to ask a random person to use their phone would be pretty awkward for him. I have read they removed the land line phones for them? (not sure)  I will be expecting his "box" and at least then I will know he isn't missing! Pretty bummed out we never go the call (even if they are "scripted")

That's to bad you didn't get the call. I know my son was charging his phone while at Ohara waiting to get picked up to go to base. What airport did your son fly out of?
