OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hello @Lynn78
My son is also a CS. He arrived at bootcamp on 7/8. From my understanding after PIR, there may be a wait until our sons leave for Ft.Lee. It all depends on how fast a class will form. They should get more info by PIR. We were told A school was 9 weeks, but I'm hearing different on this site. So I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure they will be granted some sort of leave before their first duty station.

My son leaves Great Lakes for Ft.Lee the beginning of August, spending about a month since PIR. I have learned that the time at A School changes depending on the class - some are short, others longer.... it seems to depend on how fast the whole class picks up on everything, holidays, all sorts of stuff. I told Rich to just be prepared to (like his Marine brother) be Semper Gumby (always flexible)!!!

My CS was on hold for a month after BC before he went to WV to A school. School was about 6-7 wks. Once he completes school he will get to home home on leave before heading to his duty station. The length of leave depends on where he goes I do believe.

Have you heard from him yet? It's a hard 8 weeks on both ends, but the Navy takes good care of the recruits. My son had minimal experience in hospitality. He has a four year degree in hospitality management and worked part time at a pizza restaurant. After PIR graduation, we saw our son for about 10 minutes and then had to wait 4 hours to see him again because he had to move his stuff to the main base from the recruit base. Then he had liberty for the rest of the weekend and could leave the base. A school for CS is at Fort Lee in Virginia. My son has been there since July 5. He told us he graduates around August 8. He thinks he gets leave before being stationed. We are hoping so! Once your son graduates boot camp, he can have his computer and cell phone. We talk to our son every day. It's so much better now. I will be glad to answer any questions I can.

My son's PIR was July 3rd. He is also waiting to go to Ft Lee. ALMOST all CS spend at least 1 week after PIR at the Great Lakes Naval Station (just down the road from RTC) for Navy Indoctrination since Ft Lee is an Army base, thus they can't get that stuff there. Then it's a wait for orders to go to VA. Rich is doing clean-up on base this week, is hoping for a quick turn around, but anything goes.

Hi Lynnie78: Our son became a CS although it wasn't his first choice.
After PIR, he reported to Diver Prep Training, but found out that the training track would not allow him to transfer to Buds/Seals training, which is what he really wanted.
After dropping out of Diver Prep training, the detailer reassigned him as a CS. He got to come home on leave at that point.
Then he reported to Fort Lee Kentucky for CS "A" School, which lasted approx. 8 weeks.
He came home for 3 weeks, after graduating from CS "A" School.
I would guess (but not sure), that your son will report to CS "A" School directly after PIR, and will get to come home on leave after graduating from CS A School and before reporting to his first official duty station.
I know there used to be a CS School at Great Lakes, in addition to the one at FT Lee, but not sure if the one at Great Lakes still exists. If it does, he may report there instead of to FT Lee for CS "A" School.

Our son is in Misawa Japan now but will be returning to states next month. He's with a squadron and has minimal CS duties right now - but works hard and long hours doing whatever he's directed to do.

And the adventure begins!! My daughter never took any leave after bc or Aschool, and might have been something she regretted because once you get on the ship it is long hard hours, with minimul sleep. She likes it though, even though it is long, but I know she cant wait to sink her teeth into some leave time once they get back from deployment, before they turn around and deploy again!
