Hey Moms!

We just had an awesome stay at the Navy Lodge in Great Lakes.

I thought I should let other Moms know that there is a good chance that your sailor won't be allowed to be anywhere on base during Liberty Weekend. Our son was told it would be the quickest way to have your contract lost.

We just wanted to hang out with our sailor and let him sleep in a normal bed for a while. My husband was so disappointed to learn that he couldn't enjoy the lodging as it's just perfect for families.

This is the best forum for people planning their PIR weekend so I just wanted to give fellow Navy Moms the heads up.

The Navy Lodge is just the best option around the area other than that. Super clean, quiet and comfortable. Staff is very helpful. You can't find a better price for what they offer. Awesome lodging. Nice stay.

Does anyone know why graduates can't visit? Maybe if I knew the reason behind it I will stop being so bummed about it. (Would rather give our money to such a great facility)

You'll have to wait until after your future Sailor ships next week and you get the form letter with his PIR date to make reservations.

Check your My Page.

thank you

You are very welcome.
Please do check your My Page. You can get to it from the My Page tab above.

My sailor is set to graduate on 15Aug. I tried to reserve a room at Navy Lodge just yesterday, and they didn't have anything available! Really bummed about it.

Look for holiday inn in gurnee. Anything in that area I've heard was nice and close.

Definitely will check on that right now!

My sailor is hanging out with me at the Navy Lodge as I type this. There is no restriction that I am aware of.

Do you need to book under your SRs name?

Yes.

Why should we book under our SRs name?

Marylou, your then Sailor is your sponsor. Civilians can only stay at DOD facilities if they have a military sponsor.

The restriction only applies to Sailors who will have training or "A" School at the TSC at GL. Those who will fly out to "A" School or training are not affected and are able to visit both the Navy Lodge and the Navy Gateway Inn without needing the deviation chit.
