I have no idea if I am doing this right or not but here I go. My son is leaving for boot camp on 8/5/14. I have no idea what to expect. My heart is breaking and i feel so alone. I feel like I am being silly for being so emotional but it is going to be so hard.

chris92 I feel your pain. This site is a God send. It help to know that I am not the only one feeling this pain. I myself feel like my heart is breaking. We leave tomorrow (for MEPS) & I can't get this feeling out of the pit of my stomach. We just finished packing up his room yesterday. It hit me that from this day forward his room will only be a place he sleeps when he visits. It won't be "His" room amymore. Ahhh, don't know if I can do this.

Good luck to you and will be thinking of you at this time.

First please thank your son for his service to our country, from one Navy mom to another.

You will receive a phone call from him after her arrives at boot camp, very short and brief, 30-45 seconds, you will not have time to ask questions.  He will tell you he has arrived and he loves you and will call you in 6-8 weeks.  Also this call usually comes very late.  Ours came at 12:30 or 1:00 AM.  A few days later a box will arrive on your doorstep, that box will hold all the clothes, shoes, etc that your son left with.  YOu will get a  letter from him a short time later letting you know about the graduation, hotels, etc.  Driving in Chicago is a nightmare, we flew from Colorado to see our son graduate.  We did rent a car but actually rode the train most of the time.  Parking is very expensive in downtown Chicago,  If you are planning on staying the weekend, go online ahead of time and look up the transit system there.  You can ride the train,  but it is cheeper if you buy you tickets in advance.  If you buy them on the train there is a $10.00 surcharge per person.  Our son wanted to go into Chicago the weekend we were there, so we took him in.  The Navy Pier is a another fun place to go while you are there, but again parking there is very expensive around $40.00.  Less expensive to take in train from outside the Navy Base, then ride the city bus over to the Pier.

Also if you are flying to Chicago, watch Southwest, when we flew out to our son's graduation, I was able to get 3 round trip tickets for me, my husband and daughter for $452.00 dollars.

Also as soon as you get his address start sending letters  We wrote our son every week.  he loved getting letters.   One thing he told us is not to write little notes on outside of envelopes or draw little hearts etc.    My coworkers wrote him letters, his aunts, etc, they love to get letters.

cinkelmelmiles thank you so much for the info. There is so much to take in and a lot to absorb. I am so grateful for people like yourself that give great advice. I hope one day to be able to help others as everyone is doing for me now. Take care and thank your son for his service. I know I am very proud.

Arrival and What Happens at the RTC will let you know what will soon be happening.

My heart is breaking as well. My son leaves for boot camp tomorrow and regardless of how proud I am of him I cant stop crying.Of course I try to keep my emotions in check around him because the last thing he needs is to worry about me. I hope each day will get easier but I just cant imagine our home without Shawn

I broke down today in front of him for the first time. I could not help myself. I know he is starting to get scared/nervous. Breaks my heart. I haven't slept well in days and don't anticipate much more anytime soon. good luck to you.

I too have a son leaving for boot camp 08/05/14 i am  feeling all the emtions sad, happy nervous, all i can do is pray he will be ok and having a site to go to like this is great

I feel for you. My thoughts are with you too

skeeter, check your My Page; I left info for you a while back.

I feel for you all but mine left almost a week ago and it gets easier. I miss him like crazy and keep waiting for him to walk through the doors. But also it may sound strange but it was almost a releif when he got on the plane. All the pressure of waiting and anticipating and the emotional toll it takes is kinda lifted because he is on his way and it is out of your hands... Stay strong ladies!!!

Syfyfan14 I know what you mean I am a little obsessed with this site and can not get enough of it.  I sent you a friend request so we can message each other and maybe share some stories.  I am in Arizona, where are you located?

Check your My Page. You still have changes to make.
