I booked this hotel with the intention of being able to "hang out" and give my sister some time to relax after completing bootcamp. After the PIR she checked in to A school at Great Lakes and was briefed that she was not allowed to visit or enter the Navy Lodge because it was considered off base housing. If i had known this information I never would have booked a room there for three nights. I had a limited amount of time to spend with my sister and I was less than happy to spend the bulk of my first night with her booking a new hotel and moving everything from the Navy Lodge to the new hotel room.
The facility itself was nice, I was looking forward to bringing her there, I just think this information should be conspicuously posted so that other families don't have to deal with this same inconvenience. If your recruit/graduate moves directly from RTC to their A school at Great Lakes, they may not be allowed to join you at this hotel.

Graduates Not Allowed on Navy Lodge Grounds.
Hey Moms!
We just had an awesome stay at the Navy Lodge in Great Lakes.
I thought I should let other Moms know that there is a good chance that your sailor won't be allowed to be anywhere on base during Liberty Weekend. Our son was told it would be the quickest way to have your contract lost.
We just wanted to hang out with our sailor and let him sleep in a normal bed for a while. My husband was so disappointed to learn that he couldn't enjoy the lodging as it's just perfect for families.
This is the best forum for people planning their PIR weekend so I just wanted to give fellow Navy Moms the heads up.
The Navy Lodge is just the best option around the area other than that. Super clean, quiet and comfortable. Staff is very helpful. You can't find a better price for what they offer. Awesome lodging. Nice stay.
Does anyone know why graduates can't visit? Maybe if I knew the reason behind it I will stop being so bummed about it. (Would rather give our money to such a great facility)

I checked with Brian Walsh at RTC about some SRs being told they cannot visit their families at Navy Lodge after graduation.....he said that is not true and asked me for division numbers so he could make sure the RDCs have the correct info. I only had a couple of division numbers at the time. Sadly, I feel the sailors will probably obey this and not take a chance. I hope that RTC can make sure the RDCs are advised properly on visits to Navy Lodge.

Have Brian check with someone at the TSC as to what information is being given to the new Sailors at check in since that seems to be where the confusion began. Info is that those who are to be students at the TSC now need a deviation chit to visit both the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites and the Navy Lodge. Previously, the deviation chit was needed for the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites, but not the Navy Lodge. Somehow that information has been misunderstood to mean that the new Sailors cannot go there at all and the misunderstanding has been passed on and in the passing has grown to encompass all Sailors, not just those staying in GL. Sailors who will not be staying in GL do not need the deviation chit and can visit guests at either facility with no problems.

I will be staying at the navy lodge. My SR will be going to A school in SC will I need anything special in order for my SR to visit me??

Navywifemomma, no, your Sailor will not need anything special to visit you. It's the Sailors who are staying at the TSC at GL who need to request a deviation chit, not those who will be flying out. The parents can do nothing to assist with the process other than to let their recruits know of the need to do so once they move over to the other side of the street and are under the direction of the TSC, but that does not apply to you and your recruit.

He will not get to stay with you no matter where you are. He has a curfew, strictly enforced.

Yes, the Navy Lodge is a good place to stay and yes, if he needs a chit and gets it, then there will not be a problem.

There is no overnight Liberty for any new Sailor PIR weekend.
