Hey Moms!
We just had an awesome stay at the Navy Lodge in Great Lakes.
I thought I should let other Moms know that there is a good chance that your sailor won't be allowed to be anywhere on base during Liberty Weekend. Our son was told it would be the quickest way to have your contract lost.
We just wanted to hang out with our sailor and let him sleep in a normal bed for a while. My husband was so disappointed to learn that he couldn't enjoy the lodging as it's just perfect for families.
This is the best forum for people planning their PIR weekend so I just wanted to give fellow Navy Moms the heads up.
The Navy Lodge is just the best option around the area other than that. Super clean, quiet and comfortable. Staff is very helpful. You can't find a better price for what they offer. Awesome lodging. Nice stay.
Does anyone know why graduates can't visit? Maybe if I knew the reason behind it I will stop being so bummed about it. (Would rather give our money to such a great facility)

What?? There must be a misunderstanding!!!! Week after week sailors and their families stay there after PIR! I have never read that nor have I read of the consequence of a sailor staying there!!!!!
This is good to hear! I read this post yesterday and have been worried ever since. I've searched all over looking to see if sailors cannot spend time there and couldn't find anything of that nature. We are staying there this weekend. I'll be extremely upset if he can't spend time with us there.
I heard that they can visit the lodge, but they have to report back to base every night and report out in the morning. I just booked our rooms. My son's PIR is Sept. 5th.
Our son was Div. 816. I believe that 815 and 816 were given greater restrictions. Unless your sailor is in the 800 divisions it should be ok?
My husband asked about this on the Navy for Dads site. Most families got to spend time with their sailor at the Great Lakes Lodge and had a great experience as well.
After spending nights in other hotels while on the drive there, the hotel we booked off base and the hotels on the way back, we are so impressed with the Navy Lodge. It was our most comfortable stay. I was in corporate lodging for years and am still very picky when it comes to hotel/lodging. Great Lakes Navy Lodge is wonderful. Super clean, great staff, comfy amenities and it's SO quiet. When lights are out, lights are out! Not sure you'll find that some place else. :)
Unless your sailor is in a 800 division you should be able to pamper your kid at Great Lakes. It really is nice to just watch them snore away in a comfy bed. That's such a Mom thing, huh? That and the need to feed him. I couldn't stop pushing the food on him!
Sailors who have training or "A" School in GL MAY have to get a deviation chit to visit loved ones staying in the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites, which is located on the main part of the base, but there have never been restrictions on Sailors at the Navy Lodge, which is located in the housing area and not on the base.
Update, the deviation chit MAY be required for the Navy Lodge as well as the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites for Sailors who will be students at the TSC in GL. It is not a big deal and the deviation chit is easy to get if your Sailor is staying in GL for training or "A" School.
You are very welcome.
I am new to all this. Can you tell me how I go about getting a room at the Navy Lodge? If I am in the wrong place with this question just let me know. Thank you
