I have no idea if I am doing this right or not but here I go. My son is leaving for boot camp on 8/5/14. I have no idea what to expect. My heart is breaking and i feel so alone. I feel like I am being silly for being so emotional but it is going to be so hard.

You are in the right place.  People here are very helpful, and will tell you where to go for informaiton.  You aren't being silly.  You're a mom.  This isn't like college where you can talk to your child whenever and they aren't being completely remolded in eight weeks.  Hugs.

Thank you NovaMom. That is what I have been saying. No contact is hard.

Bad news is that my son called me today and that was worse.  He's at the begining and miserable.  In my head I know he needs to be toughened up because being in the military is serious business, but in my heart...

NovaMom - Why is it bad news that he called? :(

He was miserable and trying not to cry.  Not all mom's get that call.  Some get the "yeah it's hard but it's ok".  I know my son, everything is harder for him.  And I have no problem with what the Navy does, if someone is going to be in the military they hold the lives of their comrades in their hands.  They must be forged in fire and be able to handle the responsibility.   but as a mom we hate to see our children suffer.

He's not been ASMO'd, so it's still good.

thanks lemonelephant.  he said they know he's trying very hard.  I just wrote him a letter reminding him he's being remade and tested to his ultimate.  I know it's hard but he can do it...

Have I mentioned how much I appreciate you and the other mods?  Thank you all.

You are very welcome. Thanks for the kind words.

I just happened upon this thread.  My son leaves Monday the 11th.  I'm having a tough time.  I've done nothing but tear up and cry all day.  I have so many crazy emotions right now, it's unreal.  I'm proud, sad, happy, scared...you name it, I'm feeling it.  I look at the excitement in his eyes and feel bad for feeling sad, but I don't know how I'm going to say goodbye to that face!  And besides, he will celebrate a birthday while he's gone.  It will be the first one I haven't celebrated with him.

Connors mom...I'd love to know how you're doing now since your son just left.  :)

JodysMom I am not gonna sugarcoat it. It has be & continues to be very hard. Everyone keeps saying it will get easier. I have to believe that. Each day I try to keep myself busy so I have less time to think. But everything reminds me of him. I have to stay motivated & it is so easy to just sit and do nothing. I have to remind myself of what he is going through right now because otherwise I would just be plain selfish. This is more difficult for him. That is what is hardest for me, not being there for him. I know this is what we raised our kids to be, Strong & independant.

Have faith in him and your raising of him & I know they will do great things. Plus they will make Us even more proud than we already are.

I will be thinking of you tomorrow. You stay strong and let him know that he can do anything.

Connors momand Jodysmom I try to keep busy by telling myself that my SR is working harder than he ever has so I should do something too.  I"m also trying to workout.  It's good for stress and when I don't want to do it I remind myself of what my son is doing, and force myself.

If you want to do something start writing letters now, or at least researching quotes or Bible versus you can add to letters.  As mom's we want to help, and this is how we can.

JodysMom, Check your My Page; I left info for you. (There is info on birthdays at BC in Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.)
