My daughter's recruiter came to our house tonight for his first check in since DEP. It seems strange to hear him refer to my daughter as Seaman Recruit. He is now her mentor. She has to learn the Seaman's Creed by her 1st DEP meeting which is next Wednesday. The meeting is suppose to be the first of every month but with the holiday this week and along with him having an exam they bumped it to next Wednesday. They will be playing softball. Still feels like I need a dictionary or a decoder ring to understand what they are saying sometimes.

Are all the recruiters supposed to come and meet the parents? My son joined August 12th and doesn't leave for boot camp until 1/2/15. I have never met the recruiter. He goes to the recruiting office a couple times a month, but he hasn't been told he has to learn anything in the START book. He's planning on doing it since we read he can be an E2 after graduation if he completes the DEP Guide PQS, passes a multiple choice test with an 80% and passes his PT Baseline with a SAT-MED, whatever that means. Is this true?
Yes, he can be advanced in rate to E-2 and paid at that rate from the time he passes both the test and the baseline PFA by doing those things you mentioned. See E-1, E-2, or E-3? How did that happen?.
How old is your son? If he is already 18, the recruiter may not make a home visit. Some will anyway, but they don't have to if the future Sailor is able to sign for himself.
Our son just went to his first official DEP meeting this past week. This is our one and only child and so I am in the same boat with you trying to learn the lingo, etc. Look forward to following this journey along with you. What month does your daughter go to boot camp?

hello all!!
when my son signed up for the dep program, he was 17 and just out of his junior year of high school. the recruiter came to the house first then offer for my husband and I come to any of the meetings. I went to a couple of them and was able to ask questions.
My son is also in the DEP program with a shipout date of 7/28/15. He is a Senior in HS and will turn 18 in April.
I have been to the recruiter's office a couple of times. He will attend his first DEP meeting this week.
He also checks in each Monday of the week with his recruiter. I have been reading the latest edition of the Blue Jackets manual which I ordered online when I found out about. It is very interesting and easy to read. I also downloaded a copy of the training guide for recruits that is handed out at boot camp. Granted it is dated from 2009 but is full of useful information. My son is working on reading the manual and completing the training guide before he goes.
Make sure that he is working on his DEP START Guide.
