Thanks to all you Navy moms this web site has been soooooo helpful.

Hi bluera12, my son left for bootcamp on 9/23/14 too!  This is my second son to join the Navy so I know a little bit about what to expect. Our recruits should graduate in 8 weeks.  It is always on a Friday and they now have (they didn't have this when my son graduated) a live stream video on the web for others that cannot be a graduation to view. So since they left on 9/23 count 8 weeks from  Friday Sept. 26th and graduation should be November 21st.  But sometimes they are in holding waiting for others to be shipped to RTC and this could push it back a week.  There is no real way to start planning your travel until you receive the formal letter from you recruit.  The letter usually comes about 3 weeks after your recruit left for basic.  Once you get the letter you can start to plan, but just keep in mind that graduation is dependent on successful completion of the training requirements.  If you receive a call from your Recruit stating their training has been interrupted due to a medical issue, physical training or academic testing failure, then you should not attend graduation unless you have received an additional phone call from your Recruit stating they have met the requirements and will be graduating. You can also go to this website http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/index.asp it has lots of information.  I hope this helped....and even though this is my second time around, I  miss my son too!!!  <NMH>>>  (navy mom hugs)

Thanks so much for the F/U all the info I can get really helps :)

Love the live stream of graduation so other family members can watch

Navy mom of 2, count 9 Fridays to get the most likely PIR date, which yes, is most likely 11/21/2014. PIR is generally on Friday, but a federal holiday at the end of the week could move it to earlier in the week. For example, PIR Thanksgiving week is always the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Yes, the Form Letter, which arrives an average of 10 days after the recruit's arrival will contain the address and PIR date. Otherwise your info is good advice.

thank you lemonelephant ....you do count 9 Fridays to get the most likely PIR date, my apologizes !!!  :)  But I am confused as to why some are getting letters saying PIR is Nov,14th when their recruit left on Sept 22nd, just 2 days before mine left?   And you are welcome bluera12.

Those who arrive at the beginning of the week may end up in the TG from the week before and be in a Push division and fill one of the last divisions from that TG or be in the TG for that week. That means that two recruits who arrived on the same day may not only be in different divisions, but they could have PIR a week apart. It all depends on when the divisions fill. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

Hi,

My daughter left on 9/23/14 also.  I received a call from her when she arrived, but said she wouldn't be calling for another 3 weeks. We should be recieiving "the box" with personal items within 2 weeks.  Apparently, they will be sending a "form letter" soon letting us know their address and PIR information along with other pertinent information.  I miss my daughter also!

My son arrived at GL on Sept. 22. Just received his PIR letter. Graduation for him is Nov. 14th. His Ship is 13 Division 007.

Hi kkcs46,  My son is on the same ship and division.  Your the first person I have seen with that ship #.  How exciting.  Missing him so much but I am confident they are doing great!  Just wanted to say Hi and we will see you at PIR on 11/14!

Hi,

Do you know anything about that ship or div.? My son's PIR is not til 11/21/14, did your son leave 9/23/14? Wonder why they have different PIR dates? Well enjoy your sons special day It's gonna be such a proud time. My son is from Ma. and yours?

Hi,

I know the feeling just got the formal letter yesterday and i'm sure you will recieve yours today or over the next several days. It will have his address on it so get your letters ready to be mailed out. It will also tell you PIR date and what ship and Div. he is.

Hang tight it on it's way :)

"Why do they have different PIR dates?"

Departing on the same day is no guarantee of having the same PIR date, i.e. being in the same Training Group (TG),

Half the Recruits getting off of a bus could fill out the last available billets in a TG, with the other half going into the next TG, All luck of the draw.
