I have questions for Nuke "A" school the week of Christmas ??

Hello-

First off, I would like to thank all of you for providing me with the great knowledge found on this site!! And for helping me mentally prep for my sons great quest in the US Navy. I am an Army veteran and things have sure changed since I've served, due to technology!!  For the better of course!!

My depper is due to ship out  for bootcamp 10/21/14. If all goes as planned, he should graduate boot camp 12/19/14?! If so, he will then depart for Nuke "A" school either that evening or the following day?!This will have him reporting, checking in to "A" 12/19 or 12/20. Once he's all checked in at "A" school, will they shut down the week of Christmas 12/ 22 thru 12/26?! If so, will he be allowed to fly home for Christmas?!

I know this is all early, but I'm just trying to prep myself mentally!! Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks-

I can tell you how it has worked the last few years, and the pattern they will probably follow.

The holiday stand down is two weeks.  The ones graduating on the 19th will most likely be placed directly on holiday leave, and he would check into school in January.  He will have only earned about five days of leave during boot camp (they earn 2.5 days each month), so he will need to borrow against his unearned leave days.  That's okay, he has a long school ahead of him with plenty of time to earn his balance back.  The official dates have not been released, but the 19th is floating out there in the rumor mill.  DO NOT jump the gun and book flights until you have the official dates and confirm he will be on leave.  He will be required to pay for his own travel home, and then be reimbursed for the leg which would be the equivalent of the travel to SC.  They will tell him how to do this.

Anti M-

thank you for your reply!! I hope the pattern stays as what has happened the last few years!! If not, he should at least be home for the holidays!! thanks again!!

Good to know - my son will be in the same situation.

norcal_pops - your dates for your SR all almost exactly what my son's were 2 years ago.  He shipped out on 10/23/12 & had PIR on 12/21/12.  He's also in the nuke program (in prototype now in Ballston Spa).  We lucked out and got to bring him home with us (to California) after PIR because of the school being on holiday stand down.  We found this out about a week into boot camp.  Got a call from our son saying that he would get leave and we could make reservations to bring him home but we would have to submit everything for approval to RTC.  I wouldn't do anything until you know for sure as things could change.....they do need sailors to stand watch so not everyone gets leave - some might get Christmas week & others might get New Year's week.  Either way he hopefully should get some time off at Christmas.

Have you joined the "Nuke Mom's" group?  We are very active and have many people who can answer questions for you!  Pop on over & say hi!

Good luck to your son ;-)

thank you very much B'sNukeMoM⚓️(Prototype 1401S8G)!!

We're hoping it goes the same as 2 years ago!!

I will join the "Nuke mom's" group!! Thanks for the invite!!
