Hi all! My only son is about to leave for boot camp in January. Obviously, it would be silly to spend a ton of money on things that he won't be able to have or use for the next few months. Does anyone have any good ideas of gifts for kids about to leave the nest??? It may be the last Christmas with me for a while and I'd like to do something nice for him. Any suggestions are welcome.

Get a small address book and get all his friends to put in their addresses and phone numbers calling cards are things that pop into my mind
Excellent idea! Thanks a bunch!
Experiences, especially those which he can share with family and friends. A day at a laser tag place or "fun center", a nice meal out, movie tickets. Or a nice massage and manicure, yes, guys can enjoy pampering too.
If he is religious, he can take a pocket bible and a small religious medallion to boot camp. Maybe a nice slim black wallet, or a simple black watch.
ohhhh...I hdan't thought of fun day stuff! Great ideas. Thanks so much. :)
A portable battery charger. My son used his to charge his cell phone enroute to boot camp and then it was sent home with the phone. He then can have it back after boot camp and use it at A school or during travel. It will fully charge his cell phone 3 times or his iPad 2 times. Best long term useful gift! It is only about the same size as his phone and fits in his pocket...and no more dead cell phone! :)
perfect idea. Thanks for your help. :)
