My son graduates 12-12-14 from 800 division. He has 4 siblings and 2 parents and 2 grandparents that hope to come and spend time with him during liberty. I know only the people on his guest list can be at PIR, but my son was told by his RDC's that other family/friends can go to the Chapel and watch PIR live-streamed. Could someone validate this for me? We are trying to make travel plans and if the rest of the family on the list cannot watch the PIR at the Chapel then we need to have a place for them to be that's warm, while they wait for PIR to complete. Will our son be able to meet with the rest of the family before he has to check into his A school at Great Lakes? I do not think our recruiter has up to date info, as he told us that we could have other family attend PIR if other families do not use their quota of 4 guests- which I have learned from this forum is NOT true. I am REALLY in need of accurate info here.

The RTC website (updated just last week) says, "We do NOT have a designated waiting area". The RTC Family guide echos this, "Those who are not on the access list should remain off base and meet with their Sailor once he or she commences off base daytime liberty".

Best bet is for the rest of the family to remain at the hotel and watch the streamed PIR from there. Everyone can get together after your Sailor has checked in at his A school.
Meloni,
If you don't do anything else, you should bookmark these two links. When in doubt, refer to the info contained in the official RTC website and the Family Guide.
Thank you for your help. I shared this with my son's recruiter, who really should have up to date info on these things
There is no livestream viewing offered in the chapel anymore- this is a recent change so while it was offered back in September, it is no longer an option. Anyone who isn't on the list will be asked to leave the base. The bootcamp website is updated regularly. While getting information from others who have attended PIR is a good way to find out general information about personal experiences, it is not a substitute for official sources such as the bootcamp website.
That is not allowed. Used to be a work-around, but they discourage it for security purposes.
