INTRODUCTION: A place for parents and others who have attended PIR and graduation weekend to share comments, suggestions and ideas that will hopefully make it easier and more enjoyable for other familes who are preparing for their own PIR events.

WHAT TO DO: This is an 'interactive' forum, with each person encouraged to start new topics (by posting your comments in the 'blank' at the top of each page) -and- respond to individual posts (by clicking 'reply' on that particular post).

ALSO: Over time, I will be organizing some of the posts herein as a sort of 'guide' which will be static -- that is, there will be no new posts to that discussion... thus it will not actually be a 'discussion' but more of a factual and flowing narrative that takes the reader, moment by moment, through happy hours of PIR, covering the basics with good recommendations about what to do, what not to do, and how to do (or avoid) doing it.

To get started on this process, it would be very useful to hear from you regarding which posts and/or particular information do you think should be included? Sincerely, I look forward to hearing from you and transcribing our collective wisdom for those who will attend PIR soon.

Lemon elephant, can you please help me; I'm trying to locate a link that I located prior to my sailors PIR 12/05/14 to order divisional shirts. I can't fathom where it would be at this point in time. Much appreciated!

Thanks bunches!!

Thank you for all the info -  my SR is Ship 4 Div 218. If they are going to Pensacola A-school any guess how long we might get for our visit? I heard sometimes they may get to stay with family at the hotel.

Your Sailor can visit you at the hotel on the day of PIR and then will return to the RTC that evening. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.

Thanks for all your info!!

Just wanted to post some info re graduation. We did not know that there are two separate bases at Great Lakes: one is the Training Recruit Command and the other is the regular Navy base. If your sailor is staying for A School in Great Lakes and says he'll meet you in the Visitors Center, that is on the main base not be the Drill Hall.  You do have to drive there.

Would like a list of events and possible costs associated with them, leading up the ocs graduation day.

My Daughter graduates 09-18-05 Div 315 and I need to find out about the evening before.Where do we go and what do we do? Any help will be appreciated. Kate

kate, You can attend one or more of the Meet and Greets. Your Sailor will not be there, but you will have fun with other loved ones. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) to help you know how to plan your weekend.

I left info for you on your My Page.

My daughter's PIR is 11/6/15. I haven't booked our flights yet because I am not sure when to book our return flights, as I don't know what her liberty will look like and don't want to book them too early in case she has additional time to spend with us on Saturday or Sunday. She will be a PAC seaman so not technically going to an A school but is staying in Great Lakes for 3 weeks of training, so not sure how her situation will work for liberty.  Any thoughts or feedback?  Also, I have been searching for the PIR 11/6/15 group and can't seem to find it.  Would love if someone could provide the link.  Thanks so much!  :)
