My son's recruiter told us that they will pull all of his wisdom teeth at BC. Do they do this during the processing days? I can't imagine having to start the intense workouts 2 days after having all 4 teeth pulled out! What if they end up with dry socket or something? Will they have to be put in a different group then graduate later? Another friend said to be sure he knows he doesn't HAVE to get them pulled but that they will "highy reccommend"it.

I had my daughters wisdom teeth removed before leaving for boot camp. It was nice that she had time to heal at home and to have one less thing to worry about in boot camp. We also set up her checking acct. with the Navy so she doesn't have to worry about that as well. She will write her acct. number and routing number in her Navy Bible that she will be taking with her. They have blank pages in it so she will have plenty of room for this as well as addresses and phone numbers.

Be sure to have a list of numbers in her wallet which she will have on her when they go to make calls.  She won't have her bible at those times and stress can cause them to blank on numbers.

My son is in the navy and his letter stated he has to get his wisdom teeth pulled also. My co-workers nephew is in the Marines and they did not sedate or anything. Just cold turkey pull I no teeth. Is that normal??

I have argued this battle for years now. If you have the time, take your recruit to your local dentist and have the teeth pulled in advance.

Why make Boot Camp any tougher than it is.

Do not believe those who say "it is no big deal". True....it MIGHT not be a big deal.....but then again, it might.

Just make sure you get permission from the recruiter before doing so.

P.S. I know of a recruit who was sent home due to complications that followed from an infection from having his teeth extracted at Boot Camp.

My daughter went through the same thing. She was fine but did have to go back for pain meds because she was still painful on like the third day, she was giving two sick days before returning back to BC duties.

My daughter recruiter suggested we remove them. He said they are not deployable with the teeth. They give them 2 days convalescent which is like medical leave. I had our dentist remove mobths before she left.

Bugs,

Your daughter's recruiter was incorrect. They are deployable with their teeth, however, they do pull out a great percentage of them.

My son got 3 pulled out. And yes, he said he had 2 days "off" after that 2 more days of limited activity.
