Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed.  Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

first letter

My arrived at basic ten days ago and still no letter. My understanding was that there would be a form letter sent with his address on it, not by him necessarily. Then the Navy family guide says recruits themselves send a letter the first week. Well, I haven't received any letter yet and I can't stop worrying about it. I have visions of my boy wondering, "Why hasn't mom sent me any mail?" ugh.  Anyway, is it a form letter or a personal letter? When should it be here? I have a friend whose son left the same week and she got her letter several days ago.

Have you gotten his Box yet? The Form Letter is usually about a week behind it.

The first piece of mail that your recruit will send home will be the Form letter with all the information about PIR and his address on it.

This letter can take up to two weeks (occasionally longer) as they write it AFTER they arrive in their permanent Ship (barracks) onboard RTC.

When Recruits arrive to RTC they spend at least 4 days in-Processing, sometimes longer. During that time they are on a temporary in-Processing Ship (barracks). Then they move to there new Ship and the letters are written. Depending on what day they arrived, what day they get into their Ship and how far you are from GL the days can add up. So not everyone gets their Form Letter at the same time.

 Great on the Box!

Make sure that you go through his pockets and shoes...sometimes when they send their cell phone home they take it apart and put it in the pockets or shoes for safe travel.

Also, if the pants legs are rolled up...it's because they get fitted for their boots and athletic shoes. They don't bother fixing them as they are going to be removing them soon :-)

When you get your Form Letter please join your PIR group.

If you read the discussion on "So Worried" as CryptoDad mentioned, you'll see I chimed in there on our "not the norm" experience.  I will add, since you mentioned your friend's son shipping the same week, my son and his friend left the same day and from the same place.  His friend's mom received everything earlier and it freaked me out thinking something was wrong.  His friend was put into a push division and had PIR one week earlier than my son and my son was in P-hold.  Most people can follow the general guidelines of when things happen and then there are a few who are exceptions.  You will find out really quickly that, unless you hear otherwise, they are OK.  It's stressful on the not knowing end but hang in there, your form letter will arrive soon!

It will come. It is the waiting that is so difficult. But it will come. Also, don't be to alarmed when your recruit indicates they have not received a letter from you. It does take longer for your mail to reach them than it does for their's to reach you. They get to write to you once a week.

Just got mine Tuesday, and he was 9 days in, it is a form letter but your son will be the one who fills it out, I could just tell it was his handwriting and was just glad to see his handwriting. If you still haven't gotten it, it will come soon!

I was so glad to see your post. It was just what I needed to read today! My son is also 11 days in and no form letter. It has been stressing me out. I have been trying to stay busy and write him, but have no where to send them. I started worrying did I miss it? Does he think I am just not writing? I keep trying to convince myself that no news is good news but it is getting harder the longer I wait. It would be comforting just to know where to send letters and then I could quit timing the mail delivery. Haha. I hope you get your letter soon and it's comforting to know that other parents are understand.

I went a head and starting writing before I got his address, by the time I received it I mailed 3 at one time, I dated them in the top right hand corner so he would know which ones were first, also that way he will know that you have not stopped thinking about him. It will come very soon and will make you feel good just to see his handwriting! :)

I thought I was just being silly, but when you mentioned how nice it is to see their handwriting, I felt the same way!
