OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

PIR graduation-best places to stay
First I want to thank everyone for all the help on this site. I am trying to prepare for travel to BC graduation. I have read in the discussions that stay at a hotel w/shuttle versus driving to graduation because of all the traffic. I would like some advice on actual places to stay. I have read Residence Inn which provides a shuttle is good? Any Holiday Inn's/Hampton/Motel 6 or other suggestions? Will Sarge pick you up @ other motels?? I read it is good to stay at a place w/shuttle because if your recruit needs to be back by a certain time to base it is easier on them. I have never been there and it's hard to tell by map etc... I heard if you stay at Navy Lodge that your recruit may not be able to stop by? Any advice/info would be great. Just trying to make the best choice for my recruit and my family.

We stayed at Navy Lodge. Had a great stay and yes our son was able to visit after graduation and the next day. We picked him up Saturday morning and took him back Saturday evening. We chose to drive to graduation. We got at the gate a little after 6. Waited til they let us in, but besides that we had no trouble with traffic. Got to choose our seats since we arrived early. Sarge's shuttle does pick up and take to graduation. Think it's $2 or $3.00 a person. They can tell you when you check in. If you can, attend Sarge's Meet & Greet. He has lots of graduation info and it was a lot of fun too.

There is only a possible problem with the Navy Lodge and the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites if your then Sailor is staying in GL for "A" School or training. That will not affect your Sailor since he will be flying out to Charleston. See Saving Money PIR Weekend and PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend. Having a car gives you more freedom and may be less expensive than taxis or shuttles, but that is up to you. Yes, your Sailor will need to be back that evening by the time he is given, just plan to drop him off at least 30 minutes before that time.
