OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I am so very thankful to have found the NAVYForMoms website and Facebook page. Without it, I would probably be curled up in a ball with three or four empty tissue boxes strewn around me! I am so very proud of my son...this is all just so unfamiliar!

I would really like to get to know other moms with sons or daughters who started boot camp on 7/8/15...as a single mom, I could certainly use the support, reassurance, and guidance!

Yes, there are fB pages for the PIR dates and someone will usually post them on the main page of this group and also in the PIR groups. Be very aware of PERSEC when you join a group on fB or anywhere on the web.

Check out https://www.facebook.com/NavyRecruitTrainingCommand. The PAO posts random photos randomly. The PAO does not usually identify the division/s photoed, so you have to look through all of them. There is no guarantee that your recruit will be photoed, but it is fun to look at the photos and get an idea of what is happening at the RTC. They do not have pages that follow a particular division.

There are groups on N4M for each of the PIR dates that will allow you to connect with others with loved ones training with your recruit and there will be discussions in the PIR group for each of the pairs of brother divisions and the 900 division once all of the divisions in the TG are known.

still waiting on the box.  hope it comes today.  Waiting for the address too.  I am figuring on PIR to either be 9/4, or 9/11.  My daughter arrived on a wednesday, and she was on hold for a week, making her PIR a week later than I figured.  so you never know.   Holding up ok as long as I don't talk about anything emotional... that'll come with time.  Hang in there!  I promise it's get easier.  before you all know it, you will be walking around with a huge smile, just counting down til your first hugs with your sailors....

New photos on the U.S. Naval recruit command Facebook page of our new recruits. I just spent an hour scanning photos for a glimpse of my recruits face, with tears streaming from my face!! Ugh
I got a Fed Ex door hanger today.

It was only a stupid cell phone he was suppose to donate :(. I have officially hit that melt down day. I am loosing my mind.

Recruits can donate clothes, but they can't donate cell phones and also can't trash a cell phone.

That is soooo exciting, Sandra!!!  I looked through those 135+ pictures and didn't see him.  I read that the PR person had to delete over 60 pictures because so many recruits were acting "unprofessional" in them. (Not sure of the military term.) Anyway, I hope it wasn't my son.  I can't imagine any recruits acting like that...aren't they afraid of PT or other repercussions? Kids these days. SIGH

Good Morning BC Moms,

Got word yesterday from my recruits GF that the Box was received by his father.  Which means the letter is soon to follow.  I spent majority of yesterday scanning each and every picture that was posted on the US Navy Recruit Training  Commands FB page, with tears flowing heavy from my eyes.  Tears of pure joy and a bit of jealousy of those that had found their recruit.  I didn't see mine.

I was impressed to see that the issued(Birth Control) glasses weren't as bad as we had thought they would be.  They actually look nice!!

Its great to see the recruits smiling and enjoying some laughs among all the "drilling" and "shouting" that they endure.

I am concerned though of one thing, reading the OPSEC on this page it asks not to list the recruits last name, yet on the FB page people were tagging their recruit and listing his full name???? is this ok?

I'm looking forward to meeting more moms that may have the PIR date 9/4 or 9/11.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!! Hooyah!!

Yes, tagging recruits on fB is a PERSEC concern (it's not an OPSEC concern in BC), but people do it. Don't do it to increase PERSEC.

Speaking of PERSEC and pics, check your My Page.

I didn't see my son either, 530BBMom.  It was great to see all of them, though.  Was I the only one shocked at how YOUNG they all looked???  My son has the BCGs, too!  I was glad, because it made scanning all of those photos easier!  Funny that those glasses do not look much different that his regular "hipster" glasses!!  I can't believe that people tagged their recruits.  lemonelephant shared the security pages with me right away when I logged into this site. It is pretty clear on what not to do.

I just want to do everything correct and not disrespect what the Navy has had in place for years. I want my recruit to know I'm extremely proud of him. And I cannot wait to get the letter and first contact. I hope to meet some of the navy moms too once in GL. Hooyah!

I LOVE your tattoo!!!
