For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Drydock assignment Norfolk
My sailor is tentatively to report to a ship in dry dock in Norfolk. Can anyone give information on living situation? Will they be on the ship or in barracks? Don't know name of ship.Thank you!

Most likely barracks barge unless he has enough rank to get BAH; it wouldn't be the ship.

Hi Hey Lady! My son is on a ship that is in dry dock in Norfolk currently. There is a barge that is docked right next to the ship that houses sailors that don't have other housing arranged. Sailors don't like it much as it runs 24/7 like a ship would and isn't very restful. My kid was lucky enough to get PPV housing upon return from deployment late last year, but that is something they have to apply for. It is like a really nice apartment complex that houses either only guys or only gals. Tell him once he gets there to check with his command on how to get PPV. My son loves it.

I have a funny story, too. While in dry dock, the ships are uninhabitable. Sailors are forbidden from sleeping on board as there are all kinds of hazards - plus the fact that if there were an emergency (fire maybe?) no one would know you were there to look for you. Anyway, my kid broke the rules one night and stayed on the ship. During the night while it is PITCH BLACK he woke up hearing a chair being drug across the deck near him and had his first case of sleep paralysis at the same time. If you've ever had that you know it is crazy scary! Anyway - he will NOT be breaking that rule again. LOL

HA! Funny story now, but I'm sure he didn't think so at the time. Only once have I ever experienced sleep paralysis and it was terrifying. I literally thought someone/something was sitting on my chest trying to suffocate me and I could not move. Weirdest thing, I was trying to tell myself I was dreaming & it wasn't real lol! I can't even imagine your son going through that on a dark ship - I would have grabbed my stuff and ran like the dickens!!! BTW my son says he has heard that his ship has ghosts & he believes he's heard them too (middle of the night watch - deep in the bowels of the ship!). BOO!

My son joined the Eisenhower when it was in dry dick and lived on the ship. I was told that there is always a long list of sailors waiting for the barracks.
