Sitting here enjoying one of our last few evenings with our son before he leaves on Monday and he just got news that another one of his friends has passed away. I don't know the details, but he said that he just saw him about two weeks ago and this is about his fifth friend to pass away in the last year. He told us that as sad as it is, this is why he's ready to go...and I'm almost relieved for him to get away from some of the bad situations that are here trying to drag him down. It has been such a relief to hear him tell certain friends on the phone "no, I'm not interested in hanging out with you, or I'm not trying to hang out there!" People say that their kids make a huge transformation during bootcamp, but I have to say that just the decision to join changed my son. I believe it saved him, and for that I will celebrate his decision and this transformation, because in my eyes he is already a hero in so many ways. Praying God will give me and all of you strength to get through the next couple months as we hug our children goodbye and know that we have prepared them for this moment since the day they were born. And just like when they took their first steps or rode their first bike, it's time for us to step back (take a deep breath) and just watch how amazing they truly can do all by themselves.

Ugh...it sounds like your son has had a big picture view of his life and how it could turn out depending on his choices.  I will praise God for leading him to such a noble and courageous career in the US Navy.

It is funny how no matter your situation, no matter where you live, all of us Moms are all feeling the tug and ache of our children leaving us.  I have to keep reminding myself that this is what we are charged to do.  God gave us the gift of our child with the responsibility of raising good, responsible adults.  We are seeing this unfold before our eyes.  So why am I sad?  I guess I am not ready to let go yet.

I am so happy to have this board to let it all out and hear that across this great Country, Moms everywhere are feeling this most confusing set of emotions.  Let that bond us all together, and God bless our sons and daughters as they volunteer for the strongest Navy in the World...(chest puffing out a little bit).

Grateful for this site too...really gives me comfort reading what everyone is feeling and relating to it 100 per cent! We were given the gift of raising our children for this moment. It's greater than anything I've experienced thus far!

Beautifully said! I'm trying to concentrate on the positives as well. My son has stepped into adulthood with the decision and is proving it already as he prepares to leave next week. Such a change. Can't wait to see what he does over the next weeks in boot camp. So proud of all of them, especially on this Veteran's Day. It has a whole new meaning.

Congratulations to you mama ShellyEllyBoo for raising a fine young man.  You've got the right attitude, we've done our jobs now it's time for them to go off & do great things!

Thank you ladies. This site has helped me so much! Enjoying all of these last days together and relaxing as much as possible.
