As we prepare for the upcoming deployment let's use this as a place to discuss any questions we may have.

**PLEASE REMEMBER OPSEC AND DON'T POST SPECIFIC DATES REGARDING SHIP MOVEMENT**

Dates may only be discussed AFTER they have happened.

Here's the shipping info.  Remember you will need the specific box # from your Sailor.  ****THIS IS A NEW ADDRESS****

There have been questions from some about seeing the ship off - where's the best location, can they get on the pier?  Anyone know?

Make sure your sailor gets a "Ship to Shore" AT&T calling card.  They can be purchased on the ship and can be reloaded.  You will need the pin # from the card.  Call 1.800.569.2018 to reload - minimum $25.  ***UPDATE 12/29/15*** AT&T will be issuing new cards as of 2/1/16.  You can continue to use any minutes you have on your old card after that date, but you will NOT be able to reload that card after 2/1/16.  Also, until 1/11/16 if you reload your card they are giving 25% more minutes for FREE!

Here's the link to the USPS "Click & Ship".  You can get free boxes/tape etc. from them too.

OK, I am so frustrated.  My daughter has never given me a unit/box # for her address.  I've always sent mail to USS Harry S Truman, CVN 75 with the FPO#.  She has always rec'd her mail.  She has asked her CO and other sailors how to find the Box# and no one knows!  Also, I have reminded her numerous times to get me on the ombudsman list and the FRG list via her military email.  She's so busy cranking right now that she keeps forgetting.  Now she's on 13 hour days til they depart. :(  She also said they were sold out of ship to shore calling cards.  Hopefully they re-stock!  Putting her phone on military suspension but she has a SIM card to get WiFi somewhere in ports to use the phone.

Aw Sea Salt - yes it is frustrating!  I saw on the FB page where someone said your sailor can go to the mail room on the ship & they can give them their box #.  I know the individual box # is a fairly new thing so many sailors probably aren't aware of it.  Fingers crossed she can get a few minutes to do it.  And the email too!  I finally copy/pasted the info and sent it to my sailor in an email. That we he had all the info he needed plus the email address for the FRG.  Once he had it all at his fingertips he finally got it done for me..

You would think the ship would have plenty of calling cards on hand - that's disappointing. Tell her to keep checking - my son told me they are re-loadable - although I'm still waiting for him to get me the info so I can reload for him once in a while :)

My son is in the same position. I finally got a box#....but he was going on memory and not sure.they are sure busy!
I am really getting anxious about deployment. Especially after the events tonight in Paris. My sailor is 29, but he is is still just a baby to me! Just hoping and trusting that he has all of his business taken care of before he leaves. Glad to know that there is a group of moms going through the same thing as me. I am hoping to ship out his first package this week and maybe it will brighten his day!
I'm with you allyj31...my little man on the boat is only 19! I'm a wreck! I have to stay in touch with you great ladies, pray and know all will be ok. We have each other. Prayers out to all our sailors!

I am a mess.  Driving my son crazy.  Worrying when theres nothing to worry about(according to him).  He will be fine.   Why are there so many jets flying over head?  This is making me extremely nervous.  Especially after seeing whats happened in Paris/France.  I am so sad for them.  Praying for a quick end to all of this craziness going on in the world.  :(

Hang in there Anne and try not to worry (much)! When we visited our sailor in VA last month I remember there were lots of jets flying. It's normal...

Yes the situation in Paris is so sad....praying for Paris.

Jusr remember our sailors are well prepared & well trained. ;-)
Hugs momma!

Hello ladies. My daughter is only 25 and this is her first deployment. I am so nervous about this deployment. I am keeping her 5 year or old daughter as she is on this cruise, and was not so anxious but in light of the events in Paris I am now soooo on edge.
I will keep them all in prayer and keep in touch with you ladies here to help get me through this.

Ann... remember there are several Navy and Army bases all around here.  The planes from Monday-Friday 8 am - about 11 pm... All the time.  It's VERY normal.

Awwww BoomMom - such a sweet picture ;-)

Such a sweet picture! I just hung up with my son earlier and he just texted me one last time. I am way more upset than I thought I would be. As a mother, this is really scary.

This is beautiful!  It was hard enough just saying goodbye to my son and He doesn't even have a wife or a baby.  This has been so hard on all of us.  The worst part is seeing your child nervous and sad, for me anyway.  Made it that much harder to stay strong.  I'm glad I found this site I know that for a fact!  :)
