As we prepare for the upcoming deployment let's use this as a place to discuss any questions we may have.

**PLEASE REMEMBER OPSEC AND DON'T POST SPECIFIC DATES REGARDING SHIP MOVEMENT**

Dates may only be discussed AFTER they have happened.

Here's the shipping info.  Remember you will need the specific box # from your Sailor.  ****THIS IS A NEW ADDRESS****

There have been questions from some about seeing the ship off - where's the best location, can they get on the pier?  Anyone know?

Make sure your sailor gets a "Ship to Shore" AT&T calling card.  They can be purchased on the ship and can be reloaded.  You will need the pin # from the card.  Call 1.800.569.2018 to reload - minimum $25.  ***UPDATE 12/29/15*** AT&T will be issuing new cards as of 2/1/16.  You can continue to use any minutes you have on your old card after that date, but you will NOT be able to reload that card after 2/1/16.  Also, until 1/11/16 if you reload your card they are giving 25% more minutes for FREE!

Here's the link to the USPS "Click & Ship".  You can get free boxes/tape etc. from them too.

Would love this site to filter most recent posts listed first instead of last... if anyone knows how to change that.  :)

BoomMom - that is a huge problem with the N4M site - it does not post the most recent.  It makes it really hard to read things.....I'll send a message to Tiffany the admin & see if there is anything they can do since they changed the format.  I asked about it a couple of years ago and they said there was nothing they could do.... UGH

BsNukeMom... the original Truman discussion board is newest first... the NEW Deployment link/site is the one that goes oldest first... Bummer.  Well, we will just scroll down.  Can't help but wonder where they are now.  My son is on night's, so I assume he is sleeping.  Thanks for all the sharing ladies.  AND, if anyone wishes to use any of the photos I posted, feel free.

Hello Harry S. Truman family!

It's been a long time since I checked in, probably a year or 2!

And they're underway... 2nd time for our son who's a Nuke.

Thinking of all of you as we send our beloved sons and daughters off to do what they're well trained and well equipped to do. I'm mighty proud, they're a Superior bunch.

God bless you and yours!

Jbird

Hey jbird - thanks for checking in....it's always nice to have someone around who's been through this before!  I'm sure we'll have questions for you ;-)

Hi!

B's Nuke mom I thought you were here a while...??

Perhaps our son's, or my son and your daughter? Will cross paths as they're probably working close together and maybe even together!

First deployment for you?

Yes, first deployment - our son just got to Norfolk in February.  He graduated proto in January....thankfully we got to visit him in VA in July and then again in October.....

That's awesome that you got to visit! Where did he do proto?

Ballston Spa - He really liked NY (better than SoCarolina!).    Funny since he is a SoCal boy....didn't like the humidity in SC though.

We lucked out that we were able to visit NY 2x also. Never made it in to the city, but Ballston Spa was very nice!

Hi B's,

Funny because we live probably 3 hours from Balston Spa (west) and our son did prototype in SC. When we went for graduation I was stunned at how humid and tropical it was. I can see his point of not enjoying the humidity. We can get humid up here in NY but SC heat was intense. SC was soooooooo nice though. Charleston is such a quaint city, at least where we were. When the Truman came in from last deployment there was a great you tube video but I've not seen one yet for this departure.

Coach Sheila, HI! been a long long time but I remember your cheerful posts and if I remember didn't you have a quote and picture each day?

Good bless all you awesome Navy moms!!

Thank you!!  This is my girls first.  She's FRC.  She's not nervous or jumpy at all, her mother on the other hand, is.  I have been keeping busy with her first care package, and I adopted another sailor that has limited family.  My daughter said she didn't get even a post on FB when they were on debt, broke my heart.  Any other suggestions?  Are there any reliable news or media sites?  Thank you, and nice to meet you all.

Here's the link that goes to the Command Home Page for the Truman. They post pictures, etc. You might want to check it daily just to see if there is anything new!
