My son is leaving for boot camp on December 8th. I understand from reading all the information on this site that there is one week of processing and then 8 weeks of boot camp, culminating in PIR.
I know nothing is written in stone but I just wondered if those of you with more experience could tell me if his time at GL will be extended to 10 or 11 weeks since the Christmas/New Year holiday falls smack dab in the middle of his start date?
We potentially have to travel in February but attending his PIR is Priority One so I was just trying to ballpark the likelihood that PIR would go into the 3rd or 4th week in February.
I know everything is a guess until the Navy communicates but I appreciate any and all advisement from those of you with more experience.
Thanks!!

You should get a letter from the Navy what his graduation date is. Unless they get hurt or don't pass all of their tests, I don't believe the date would change because of the holidays. The letter comes about 7-10 days after he arrives.
Unfortunately, trying to plan air fare is tough, we were told to wait until the 4-5th week.
I had planned on booking my hotel and flight as soon as I received my letter, should I not do that? I don't want to wait and not be able to get a hotel, and the closer you wait to book your flight, the price goes up.
.... I'm also paranoid that the weather is going to be bad in January, and I plan on getting a flight on Wednesday instead of Thursday like I planned.... Just in case there are delays and cancellations.
Hi All,
I got "the letter" in today's Mail! My son left 10/6 and Graduation is listed as 11/25. I got a small extra "Hi" in the corner. Ship: 06 Div 026
My recruit left 10/5, our letter came today and his PIR is 11/25. Ship:06 Div 025. Just booked our hotel room!
sailormom,
Other commands will stand down for the holidays, but RTC keeps moving forward. A holiday or 2 won't extend his time in boot camp. Counting 9 Fridays is still a fair guesstimate for his PIR.
CryptoGirl is still wearing the Navy ring we gave her 11 years ago.
Thank you so much CryptoDad! That's exactly what I was wondering - how RTC was affected by the holiday stand down. Thanks for your help!
Hi there, my son leaves December 7th. Looks like our sons will be together in boot camp. I am new to this site and was thankful I saw your discussion. Everyone is so helpful.
