For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. Tickets are now issued for all guests, and all guests must have a ticket to enter base. A separate parking pass is no longer needed to drive on to base for parking.

**MDW + Hotel/Motel Advice?**
Dilemma.
I have to fly into MDW; the hotel I was getting a great deal on has airport shuttle but the taxi fare to PIR is horrible + I wanted to go to Sarge's Meet and Greet. I checked getting a closer hotel that shuttles to PIR but the travel from the airport is worse! HELP!!!
Any advice? I don't want to rent a car (traffic-phobia) or deal with PIR parking -yuck!

MDW is 55 miles away from RTC. Getting a hotel near the airport is not a "great deal". You want a hotel that's 5-10 minutes away from RTC. And close to Sarge's Meet and Greet. There are a bunch of hotels in the Waukegan/Gurnee area that fit the bill. We chose the Marriott Courtyard and were pleased. http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/chiwk-courtyard-chicago-wauke...
Here's my 2¢ for the traffic phobic: If you have to fly into MDW, take a cab or public transportation to the Ogilvy Transportation Center in downtown Chicago, From there catch the Metra's UP-N train to Great Lakes or Waukegan. Then a cab to your hotel. Ask at the hotel about shuttles to PIR (usually just a couple $). Its all very do-able.

We stayed at the candlewood suites Waukegan several times while our sailor was at GL. Very convenient & short cab ride away if you don't want to rent a car. I highly recommend you stay very close to your sailor as your commute from Midway is precious time you could be with your sailor-especially if they will be hanging out with you at the hotel after PIR!
