For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

New Navy mom.. My son just left....
Hi, I am officially a Navy mom. My son just left to the service last week on December 14th. I don't understand how this works but I am really heartbroken. From what I have heard they said that the first few months of training camp are going to be hard for my son. He's an only child and I feel so lost without him. It hurts to think about him being gone. I live in Central Texas and he has been stationed to Great Lakes, IL for the training camp. He was originally scheduled to leave on February 16th, but his date was moved up on the week before Thanksgiving to December 18th. Then about a two weeks ago they moved up his date again and he left on the 14th. He went back on the 9th for some drill that he had to do in Corsicana, where he was enlisted and I never got to see him after the 9th. The only good thing was that he was able to spend time with his father's side of the family since they live in Corsicana. It is so hard for me because he's my only child and I don't know what to do or how to feel. I am so used to talking to him on the phone daily and now I don't even talk to him at all. I received his phone on Monday, it was cracked and broken, they didn't pack it very well. I never received any of his clothes or other belongings that he took with him that day. I know that the first two months is going to be hard for him as he tries to adjust to his new lifestyle and I have already mailed him two letters and two Christmas cards. I miss him soo much.. I am glad that this place exists because I am sure that it will help me learn how to cope with what I am going through and it will help me understand what my son is doing with himself and his decision to join the Navy. Thank you for accepting me into this group. Any advice will be greatly appreciated it. Thanks.

It is very hard. My son left on the 14th also. If you are on Facebook there is a page PIR 02/05/16 on there and it is very useful and a lot of information. Only people with recruits graduating that day are on there. Hang in there Mom, send lots of letters and say lots of prayers.

Ladies my son left out on 12/2. It's been a little rough but the main thing is as soon as you know where they are (ship and division) be sure to write and send cards of encouragement!! It makes allllll the difference. The officers are NOT mean to them. They are making them tough so they gotta hang in there. It's all about listening and following directions. I'm no pro but this is what I've gathered in these few weeks. This forum helps a lot and also go to the Facebook page u.s. Recruit Training Command there are many pages but this is the official one. Remember to write, write write and let them know what's going on back home just a day in the life kinda thing. My son says they get 8 hours of sleep and they eat very good. They are learning and training and are going to be just fine. Be strong ladies. Remember the boy you've raised into a man. They can do it!!
