OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

General driving info
Hello everyone, I am attending the 2/5/16 PIR and am trying to plan my rental car and have a question about weather. Is it common there for chain restrictions due to snow? I am from the west coast and we commonly have "chains only or 4 wheel drives with snow tires" restrictions when driving. I am not sure how the restrictions work in great lakes. The rental company said they dont provide chains just all weather tires. Your Help is greatly appriciated

I don't know the answer to your question, but when I went to my Sailor's PIR another part of our group, who is also from Az .,rented a 4 wheel drive vehicle just in case. Costs a bit more though .

Common? No. Illinois law allows the use of chains in hazardous conditions, but doesn't mandate them. If you run into a blizzard that necessitates chains, you have bigger problems, i.e. the airports being closed.

Chicago and it's surrounding areas are very prepared for snowy weather. If there is that much snow then you will probably not be able to even get to Chicago. Stay some where close and use the taxi services. Just stay safe. Sarges Taxi service is one of the best according to everything I have read and he puts on the meet and greet.

Agree with CryptoDad. What airport are you flying into? Here's my experience a few years ago. I rented a car and drove up from Midway in October for PIR - a pain, tolls and all. In February (freezing cold) for "A" school graduation, I took the Orange Line from the airport into Chicago, walked a few blocks to Ogilvie station, took the Metra train to Great Lakes, then rented a car from Enterprise in GL. The train was easy and inexpensive, and turned out to be better than renting from the airport and driving up. Fingers crossed for good weather for you!

I am too afraid of weather - I lived in NM and Houston and I just have had to drive in rain. I am using Sarge's services. My son's PIR is also 2/5

In the end, the best ground transportation is what you are comfortable with.

I am from Florida. So I too am terrified. I will be using Sarge services on the 4th and 5th as well. Not used to driving on icry roads

Related to this - Even if you think you own warm clothes, you and your famiy may not be prepared for the bitter wind and cold there. Hats that cover ears, scarves, wool socks, lined gloves, practical boots with tread soles, long jackets or coats, the works. Borrow if need be.

Seriously, ask your friends if they can loan you warm weather items! A shame to have to buy something you'll only wear for a weekend. We have a lot of snowbirds here in Arizona, perhaps you do too in your part of Florida.

we are coming from Florida also. I have nothing warm to wear. We left Ohio 11 years ago.. I had all the stuff but never thought we'd need it again. We are going to freeze
