My son left for basic on the 6th, he just called needing medical records for and old adhd diagnosis, hes been off meds for about a year, he didnt tell his recruiter that he signed with because other recruiters in the past told him not to. will this disqualify him? will they send him home? does anyone know what the guidlines are in this instance? 9 out of 10 kids in this day and age get an adhd diagnosis

This is an "iffy" situation. ADHD is not an automatic disqualifier like it used to be. If he hasn't been on meds for at least a year, that goes in his favor. Can't be for one day less than a year.  It also depends on what the DRs observe as far as current symptoms or not. Plus they'll see what's in the records. I'm wondering what brought the subject up once he arrived at RTC. He went through the recruiter and the MEPS process with no problem but something happened at RTC. The fact that they're asking for his records means that they haven't made any decisions yet. So he'll probably be put in a holding division until the DRs can see his records and then decide.

thats another thing, he was on and off the phone so fast i dont know where to send em

That's a tough one...  Try emailing the Public Information Office (rtc.pao@navy.mil).   They might be able to point you in the right direction. In the meantime, go head and arrange for your DRs to get the records ready.

My son was told only certain kinds of ADHD meds were disquialifying. I know the Navy has a better tolerance of these drugs than other branches. Maybe the original recruiter can help you find out where to send the records.

i have been messaging him, hes not very forthcoming with the guidelines, but he did give me a number to call to get the address

AJ'S Proud Mommy- My oldest called me with the same request when he went through basic 6 yrs ago. He had been off his medication for ADHD for 2 yrs. They just needed his records. They didn't send him home. He is currently stationed in San Diego.

that makes me feel a little better lol hes been off his meds for a yr or just under, i dont want this to keep him from following his dream!!
