OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. Tickets are now issued for all guests, and all guests must have a ticket to enter base. A separate parking pass is no longer needed to drive on to base for parking.

My son graduates on Feb 5, 2016 and he leaves for Florida on Monday morning so we can see him from Friday thru Sunday

Tammy, Are you sure that he leaves Monday morning? That is unusual. It is also unusual to have the flight itinerary this early. Yes, some flying to Pensacola MAY fly out on Sunday due to flight availability issues, but most fly out on Saturday.

Thank you for the replies but I'm confused. How is it that some of them leaving for Florida leave the day after PIR and then the other ones have until Monday? And how do we find out in order to book our plane tickets? Thank you

Just depends on what seats are open on what flights the Navy has contracted. There is a random element to it. Leaving on Monday is quite unusual.

Shirley, your Sailor will not know the flight itinerary until very close to PIR and some don't know until the morning of PIR. If your then Sailor will fly out to Pensacola, then plan to leave on Sunday just in case your friend flies out on Sunday instead of on Saturday as most will. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend.

My son graduated Jan 15th - we saw him very briefly in the graduation hall and then he headed back to his barracks to pick up his photos - we waited for him at the RTC Navy Exchange - there was a long line there for photo pickup (if the Sailor hadn't pre-paid for his photos - mine had so we got to skip that).
Then we had him for the rest of the day. He had to be back IN his ship by 730pm but drop-off is just inside the base gate (we dropped off in the chapel parking lot) so there's a bit of a walk for the sailors. We dropped off right around 645-7.
He got his order/tickets on the Wednesday or Thursday before PIR but that was AFTER his final I'm a Sailor phone call. We had mailed him an index card about two weeks earlier and asked him to write the flight details on it to give to us at PIR - which he did. His flight left O'Hare at 8am Saturday (and the majority of flights DID leave on Saturday as far as I could tell) and his bus left base at 3am.
We met him at the airport USO and he took us to get family passes to go through security and sit with him at the gate. We brought his laptop, phone, etc... to the airport and he packed them in his carry-on (black backpack) before security. Depending on how efficiently your sailor packs his seabag - he may or may not have much space in his backpack. Mine got everything into checked luggage (seabag and garment bag) so all that was in the back pack was his mail and then the stuff we brought him -he said that wasn't true for everyone.

Thank you for all the great information. I was curious because when the plane tickets are booked you don't know when to book your flight back out because you don't know when they're leaving whether it's Sunday or Monday or late Saturday. So I was trying to see what everybody else's experience was.

Yes, Saturday is the most likely departure day, and they're taken to the airport early, no matter what time their flight is. But if you want to go to the airport and visit with them before they fly out, because their flight could be later in the day, you may want to schedule your flight for later. Some parents choose to leave Sunday so they know they can make the airport to hand over the cellphone/laptop on Saturday. All depends on what is most convenient for you.

Shirley, yes, Sailors may be at the airport for several hours before their flights.

I called great lakes this morning. She confirmed ALL leave in saturday between 1-3 am. However their flight can leave anytime during the say they will juat have to sit there and wait.
If someone leaves on a monday its due to ankther idividual situation. Ahe assured me wveryones leaves Saturday. Last time you see them is Friday unless you plan on sitting with them the USO and would then need to obtain a family pass. Hope this helps :)
