My son James is an MA ( Master at Arms). I've seen moms of seabees, nukes and seals.I think it will be interesting to learn about all the jobs in the Navy. With this discussion a mom with Q's about a job or duty can find someone with experience :) Melissa.

That is fantastic....I would love to try his cooking someday....let us know where and when that restaurant is when it happens...My son loves to cook also, but for pleasure and he is really pretty good at it.
I agree with Victoria... what a great story! And yes... please do tell us when he opens up his dream! :)
what a neat carreer joice! A great passion! Where he is now?
My son is IT2 and currently with a Riverine Squadron deployed to Iraq. Since he also scored expert in pistol and rifle, he mans the 50 cal gun on the boat.
The Riverines are small boat squadrons. They patrol the inland waterways in Iraq. He left the first part of October and will hopefully be home by June. We've had communications from the Commanding Officer to let us know how the squadrons were doing and what his hopes for a tentative return date are. Sending your child into a war zone is difficult to say the least. There are good and bad days, but I have lots of family and friends around for support. Plus I have his 2 dogs who keep me amused. I think he misses them more than anyone else. Communications are good so I receive sporadic emails and phone calls. Satelite phones are great.

Thanks for your support and well wishes.

Lora
The actually took over the duty from the marines. The Riverines have not been active on wartime duty since Vietnam. One of the Squadrons is at the dam, and his is in the lake region. He did say it can get boring. From a mom's point of view, boring is good.

Greg is stationed about 2 hours from home and when he bought a house, he took his dog with him. Pretty soon he had 2. He said there was a unit outside their fence line that had a puppy and they stole it for a few days just to play.

Does your son deploy anytime soon?
I also want to let you know that my prayers are with you, your family and all of our troops. I have a son that just graduated Marine boot camp and I am scared to death for them to send him over there....I just continue to pray for world peace so that they can all come home to their families. Stay strong and God bless us all...
