My Son graduates High School in June. He turns 18 in Aug. I became selfish and gave him an option to start BC after the holidays because I'm not ready for him to leave. He hasn't decided what he's going to do yet but he said he wants to go as soon as possible. Im very proud and nervous. He grew up way too fast.

My Sailor signed up (with parental approval) as soon as she turned 17, days before starting her senior year of HS. She shipped out in July and turned 18 at boot camp. While all her friends were taking college admissions tests, applying to schools and worrying about finances, she had her career plotted out and took advantage of DEP to start out at E-2. She was even thru with her Navy schooling in time to be home for the holidays.

Sure, they grow up too fast, but don't hold them back if they know what they want.

I would never think to hold him back. It was just an option I mentioned to him. He seems to know what he wants and I think he wants to go in Aug. I want him to have every opportunity in the world. I had him apply to at least 5 colleges during his Senior year so he knows all options are there for him no matter what he decides. Good Luck with your daughter.

Have the two of you visited a recruiter? If he wants to ship out in August now is the time to get things rolling. Sometimes enlisting into a program of his choice can be every bit as difficult as getting into a good college.

Do any of the schools you had him apply to offer NROTC or are members of the Navy College Program / Distance Learning Partnership? Options, options, options.

My daughter has been lucky like you wouldn't believe.
