I am new to this group so maybe this has been asked before but after a school graduation from great lakes how does the process work of getting home? I assume their flights are arranged by the navy but are they then on their own and can go home first before reporting to their reserve station?

Im243, I just replied to your post earlier. I hope you seen it. Yes, they are on their own after that and usually have to check in within 72  hours. He should have that information on his orders that he gets before he leaves his A school.

Thanks! He originally seemed to think he had to report straight to the reserve station. Luckily for him though it is only about 20 minutes from our house so he can drive back and forth easily. How far in advance did your sailor know about the flight details back home?

I was originally going to go to the graduation. Then he found out he would not participate because they always send the reservists home early so the don't have to pay them the for a few more day. When he checked in 30 days in advance they didn't know he existed. Was told to Come back 3 times. He got frustrated with them and told them to just book him a flight. He had 2 days notice. If your sailors paperwork is all in order and they know he is there it could be before then. Some of his friends checked in to late and had to stay 2 to 4 weeks longer.
Wow! So he needs to check in at least 30 days before he would be done? I think his comp test is May 3 and graduation is supposed to be the 5th. I am trying to make sure I am off work when he gets here but it sounds so unpredictable.
He should check in at the cpc office. His instructor should tell him that. But some of the instructors say 2 weeks before. Some of his friends instructors in another class didn't tell that particular class that is why they had to stay over
