Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

You may want to join, or at least check out, Great Lakes A School Q&A and GL A-school moms. You will find the answers to your questions in there or The TSC also has a facebook page (Training-Support-Center-TSC-Great-Lakes Facebook Page). What will his rating (job/specialty) be? There are groups for many of the ratings at GL.
He will be able to call you when he is not in class or not on duty. You can send cards, letters and pics. Some barracks do not permit food, so you will have to check on that within the groups to see what you can send in a care package. The following is from a Note on the TSC fB page:
The mailing address for students at Training Support Center Great Lakes is as follows:
(SN/FN) Last Name, First Name MI
BEQ Number and Room Number
Training Support Center Great Lakes
320A Dewey Avenue
Great Lakes, IL 60088
Packages can be sent to the same address, yet some due to size may have to be picked up at the central mail facility in Bldg. 621. Do not sent cash or other uninsured valuables.
So you will need to ask your Sailor for his BEQ Number and Room Number. (BEQ is Bachelor Enlisted Quarters.)
