My son has been in DEP for almost a year now and ship date week is fast approaching. I am doing better than I thought I would be, but am a little miffed that he went and GOT A GIRLFRIEND. So now all he wants to do is spend time with her, which I get but COME ON!!! concerned that now he is gonna be all focused on this H.S. relationship. Come on moms, who else has seen this and do the girlfriends distract these guys from focusing on the task at hand?

Thanks

Jen

My sailor found a girlfriend just before senior prom .He left for boot camp about 4 months later.( September 2014) She was supportive of his plans, so that wasn't a problem .I did have to share his phone call time with her and also his brief liberty at PIR as she also went to that .He's been home on leave 3 times since then, most recently in January .She monopolized his time all 3 times and the last time, the day he left, told him they should take a break and think over their relationship .Needless to say, she broke up with him long distance about a month later. He was devastated .That put him a little off track and now he says he's over it .If she hadn't been supportive,I'm not sure how it would have been throughout boot camp .
My suggestion is to make her your new best friend so that the two of you can support him together and support each other with shared info he may send one or the other of you. Other than that there's not much you can do but wait and see how it all plays out.
Good luck to all of you.

If my son could talk to your son he would tell him to be single until he is done with all his training. My son is 27 and broke off with his GF so he had no thoughts other than working on his career. My son believes it is a distraction especially if you have a trust issue! Everyone is different but as his mom you do know best!! If you feel it might not be a good situation try and see if he can ask her to wait until training is done and if she is still there afterward then she was sincere. When my oldest was in boot camp his GF dwindled away and it does hurt these guys!! Good luck and I hope everyone can get through this!

Still praying for a breakup prior to bootcamp. Too much DRAMA for this MAMA.

Our ship date was fast approaching and we got a call yesterday and was told that his date has been pushed back to Feb. 2017. we both are so discouraged.
