first thing that comes to my mind is wet ones those towelettes to cleanse hands with.  toothpaste toothbrushes mouth wash strips reading materials hard candies (no chocolate will melt)

Okay. Excellent!  Thank you.  And, as I harvest my garden, I have dehydrated cherry tomatoes and figs, placing each in snack-sized ziploc bags.  Dehydrated apples will go along as well.  As I was told that it takes six weeks for her (them) to receive mail, I have time to gather plenty for first package.  All your suggestions will be included.  Am concerned if she will have room to store things as well.

Tradition so to speak is if I can't use all I share with my buddies so  you might want to add a bit extra of her favorite things lol.  6 weeks would be a minimum time frame or average I've had packages take 4 weeks to 10 weeks once it gets in military hands its up for grabs because priority mail  for them pushes back a box or two from home.for a sailor sorry to say. Remember to hang on to mail receipts in case of loss and it does happen sent box to Japan for grandson it appears to have "gone overboard"  mailed it in march and he has yet to receive it so have filed claim with post office. Also bear in mind you can order the military flat rate box and custom forms online at www.usps.com  each box has to have a customs form with it.

Thank you, Judy.  I will keep all this in mind.  I was suspicious anyway.  I can imagine anything coming from the United States is practically worshiped.  I'll limit the items to casual food items and toiletries.  Heck, if the pack is stolen, these items are good for anyone, right?  Trying to be 'democratic,' lol.

Are you sure it's Somalia and not Djibouti?

Same thing crossed my mind. Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti is the only permanent US base in Africa. Special Ops and drone operations are rumored to move in and out of other African locations as needed to fight terrorists, but those aren't places where you are going to mail care packages.

Hi CryptoDad!  I'm a CryptoMom!  I was told Djibouti is the place.  And I won't have an APO address for weeks to come.  Nonetheless, thank you for contacting me.

Djibouti is in Somalia.  It's a northern city near the airport.

Nope. The Republic of Djibouti is a separate country, bordered Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden

Oh wow!  Thank you thank you.  After viewing numerous maps, this is the first showing Djibouti as a separate country.  Geez, it looks smaller than our state of Rhode Island.

Actually, closer in size to New Jersey. ;)

Djibouti ain't a great place to be stationed, but it's sure not Somalia. The good news is, she's going to love any base she goes to after.
