N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I know the below post seems silly for this group, but there may be some who are reading but not posting, and this may/will effect them.

Oh, and in case anyone hasn't figured this out yet...most of the airlines allow Sailors and extra carry on bag.  I got a small digi backpack online for my daughter (not the huge one) and put some spare workout clothes, her laptop and phone in it and took it to her at the airport.  She took the shampoos out and put them in her checked luggage, but the rest she took on with her.  she said it wasn't a problem to take it with her other backpack, but she had to check her uniform bag because it would have been too big/clunky to carry.  When they walked in with those super packed sea bags.....I was in awe of how they carried everything, but once all their checked bags were loaded on to the cart, the carry ons were a sinch.

I agree with all these posts....Anyone invited to a PIR should absolutely go, it was such a memorable moment when that roll up door lifted and all the Divisions marched in.  Tears immediately !  Not sure if everyone else balled the second they started reciting the Sailors Creed, but I could not hold back the emotion.  It is such a moment with all of them loudly reciting it...Not only did I have tears of pride for my Sailor, but also for all of those that had made it through.  From what I understand, many were sent home during this process.  We will have the chance to see our daughter in November or December and who knows, might fly to see her over Thanksgiving dependent upon what C school she ends up at.  I have to say though....I will not soon forget how many wonderful families we talked with and how many wonderful Sailors introduced themselves to us.  It was a fine group of men and women that are starting off this new career with the Navy.  I felt extremely blessed to share their day !

Ship 11 USS Kearsarge Division 156
The PIR was amazing and definitely a memorable experience not to mention extremely emotional !!! To have so many parents and family members in one place beaming with pride was very moving! My husband and I cried so much this past weekend over the joy we felt of seeing our son after two long months, and then to have to let him go again for two long years!! My husband is already planning a weekend trip to Charleston as soon as everything settles down! A coast to coast trip....California to Charleston!! We met wonderful people....mainly a couple sitting next to us at PIR....their son was in Division 158, and they are from Minnesota, we had wonderful conversations and I don't know why but we never got each other's names or FB, or anything! Congratulations to all our Sailors and families!!! Much love to all !!!
