Blessed all the VFW's that sponsor the Thanksgiving Day Food

Our Thanksgiving Day was fantastic as we got a surprised call from our granddaugther, she sounded & is doing great. It really made our holiday as an exceptional blessed day. She was with a group of recruits that were bused to a nearby VFW for a day of relaxing, cell phone access, TV, video games & great food. Thanks to all the VFW that sponsor the special holiday food for our recruits & may God blessed them & their families....

A grateful Grandma...

Chicky, I was one of the volunteers at the VFW on Thanksgiving and it was SO much fun. When they first arrived, they had that "deer in the headlights" look and then they relaxed and had so much fun. All the volunteers brought their phones to pass around so I am glad you got a call. They all kept telling us thank you and we said no, thank YOU!!

Pat L, Blessed you for replying to my comment, yes she told me they the recruits didn't know how to act...meaning they were still in Boot Camp mold & felt wierd being told to relax & enjoy the day...& you're right eventually they did relax & definitely enjoyed themselves. Just know what all of you do at the VFW is AWESOME & a TRUE BLESSING to all these young recruits far away from home. Do you know what Ship & Div #'s attended your VFW?

Chicky, I'm sorry but I don't know Ship & Div#'s but most are due to PIR on 12/3. Now don't go giving me too much credit because the Commander of that VFW is AMAZING! Usually that post hosts about 50 recruits. This year (due to the economy) several places said they couldn't do it. That Commander stepped up and said to send 200 recruits (actual count was 196). Restaurants, bakeries, and grocery stores in the area donated all the food. There was enough food to feed 3 times as many people. Also people brought TV's, game systems, computers, and laptops. It was one of the most heartwarming things that I have ever done!!!! There were 5 N4M's and we recruited for their moms to join and told them when they are deployed to contact Molly's Adopt a Sailor to be adopted. The ones that are Grad & Go, we told them what to do so that their families could go to the gate at the airport with them.
