I got home from work Friday thinking I should have a letter by now it has been over two weeks.

My heart was heavy when I checked the mail and nothing.....Got up Saturday, doing the regular routine and to my surprise I received the "I am OK phone call" ...he told me about pt and his division and how fast everything moves and what his position is when they march and can you believe I could not get a word in at all....It was so great to hear his voice and hear how excited he sounded just sharing what he was doing and the goals he was setting. I hope all of you receive a call soon, It will definately lighten the heart and give you a moment of peace.

Thanks for sharing! This encourages my heart...which is so sad right now.

All the best to you and your SR!

He had holiday routine for the first time on Sunday. Because of the holiday yesterday (Monday), the first "real" letters he could mail would be mailed today (Tuesday)..

Hello MurraysMom, It will be OK. I know exactly how your feeling I had such a heavy heart, but when you get the second call, you will have a little more pep in your step. I had so many things I wanted to say and when he called I just listened. It made all the heavy go away just knowing how he was doing and hearing that he was not in the wrong state of mind. I think that is why I was so sad. I just did not want him depressed, It will get easier and all of these Mom's are a great support group without all of you I don't know what I would have done.

God Bless you and your SR!

I read your post and had to laugh.  My son would talk so much when he called home from bootcamp that we could hardly get a word in.  Each call from your SR will get better and they seem more positive about everything.  My son is now stationed in Norfolk (just been there a week), and still talks a lot when he calls home.  I love it!  Good luck and hang in there.  It is truly a hard time when they are away from us at bootcamp.  In the end though you will be so proud and it will be a thing of the past.  Your focus will be on all the new things they will be going through after bootcamp.

My son shipped out on Thursday, and I got the call 11:30 EST, and I was so relieved even though it only last a few seconds.  We had been able to keep in contact here and there via texting, and he even called to talk to his little brother. He was able to sleep for about an hour on the plane which made me feel good because he didn't get much sleep the night before and I hear he would not sleep much the first night. I spoke to him after the plane had landed and he said he was looking for the uso and I didn't  hear from he until the call. He's had a great recruiter, in fact on Friday, he emailed us our son's address and grad date. I know not to plan anything until the official letter comes in the mail, but any bit of info helps this feeling of emptiness. I'm just feeling scatter-brained.

Reading messages from other moms over the past several months have really helped, and I really appreciate it!!

Eva - did your son call around the same time?  I'm worried that when my son calls again I'll be at work. I'm hoping it will be in the evening.
