Our son left on 8-14-12 and we got his box on the 17th. I could not believe we got it so fast. And I did not think it was going to be that hard to get :( All the things he left with came back right down to his dirty underwear. He was able to keep his bible. This weekend has been hard and just missing him so bad. I went to a wedding on Saterday and the Moms were crying and I was like they are not going any where try sending one to the military. O well I know he is doing what he wanted to do and is in good hands. Now just looking for the form letter. Any body else son leave on this day?

Hi there! My son left this same day from New Jersey. This is is my third child of four. I have only one daughter left at home and it's pretty strange. Yes, we should be getting our letter soon telling us the date of PIR and giving us a mailing address. I don't expect to hear too much from my son, but I will feel better when I can at least carry a one-way conversation with him. His girlfriend leaves for college on Thursday, so she is very anxious to get an address for him. I think she will be getting the lions share of letters from my son! Oh well! I find the only thing to do, is keep busy! So far I took the opportunity to clean all of his clothes (from the box and those scattered around the room!) and organize all his "stuff". That took me 2 days! There is definately one good thing Navy can teach my son.... neatness! I failed after 18 years... and they'll pull him together in a few hours, no doubt!! I was just writing on my blog that I cannot imagine how he will look right now.

We were told the Navy would likely take out his wisdom teeth, obviously shave his hair off and (of course) issue him those awful glasses!! I understand they call them BCG (birth control glasses), for obvious reasons. If we add a little sleep deprivation and physical training... yikes!

I hope you are feeling better... let me know when you get your letter and we'll if if our boys know each other.... bunking in same area.

Have a great day!

BoxinatorMom thanks for the note... i sure will let you know when I get the letter, it will be neat to see if they are bunking in the same area.  I also cleaned my sons room , but the clothes he sent home are still in the box in his room.  My son will have those same glasses :) I am sending you a friend request.

Hello.  I am new to this web site.  A Navy friend shared it with me.  Our oldest son left Seattle, WA August 15.  It has been such a hard journey for me so far.  My husband just past his 20 year mark in the Navy so this is a little easier on him because he knows what to expect.  This has been the longest that I have not heard his sweet voice and it kills me.  Our daughter who is only 2 years younger is also having a hard time adjusting.  We are so PROUD that our son (brother) has accepted this service and we are thrilled for him.  Its just this Mom thing is getting in my way.  Hahahah  We just received his box yesterday and it too had all his belongings right down to the boxers!  I prayer is that each of us Moms will be strengthened each day and encouraged that our child is now an Enlisted Sailor! Maybe I can meet some of you at graduation! Good luck to you and your child!!
