I was reading FB and saw someone post about the holidays, and was wondering if they get to pick which one they get the day off for?  Also is there really a muslim preacher who is at bootcamp with our loved ones?

They do not get the holidays off, except for the few who are near the end of their training and get adopted for the day by pre-approved families or churches. They certainly don't get to choose, the few observed holidays are federal holidays. For most of them, it is a non-training day, but they are still in boot camp and still closely supervised.

The Navy does have Muslim chaplains, but I do not know if there is one at Great Lakes. The way boot camp is set up, they would have to have their holy day on Sunday, and they would not be given enough time for the daily prayers five times a day. It is an adjustment they have to make in order to become a sailor.
Oh---I hope there isn't a muslim preacher in the USN! OMG!
If that is what my loved one said he will defind than WHY is only sunday the holy day???? What suddenly happened to free speech???? So I can't say what I want?

those people are the ones who attached us on our land! So I can say as I please....
Seriously? There are plenty of patriot American Muslims on the service and they should have access to a chaplain of their faith.

The training schedule is set up for one day a week off. The division only gets one day, so it is impractical to set Saturday or Friday off as holy days, as Sunday is the usual day off.

Edited heavily to not express myself in a way unsuited to a board dedicated to support and civil discourse.

Done.
Anti M- I have a questin for you, and this is kinda off topic.. lol I tried to PM you, but we're not friends, so I did send a friend request. For the Christmas holidays ( my husband is out of bootcamp, and is in San Diego ), if he doesn't have 18 days of leave built up, how does that work? Do they take their leave if they travel out of the 120 mile radius or whatever it is, or do they give everyone in the Navy those days off ( Dec 17-Jan 3 ) ?? I wasn't sure how this worked, and thought you could maybe help =]
I sent you a message.
Wow.. Am I really reading this??
discrimination against religion???
The way you have this it looks like a random thought of you own. You want free speech go for it. But others have the same right
