My son left for boot camp on 2/16 and I haven't heard from him since.

My son left for boot camp 2/16 and I haven't heard from him since. My phone rang very late that night, 23:30 or so but there was no one on the other end. I tried calling the number back but it just made a sqealing noise like a fax machine. I traced the number back to North Chicago but could not find the owner. Can anyone tell me if this might possibly be a number from boot camp? I'm beside myself with worry. Thanks

Do NOT worry. Not everyone gets to make the "Hi mom, I'm here" call. There are hundreds of recuits and only a few phones, so if they run out of time they won't make the call. You won't hear from your son for about 3 weeks. Call his recruiter and get the address and start writing letters. He won't be able to write to you until about week 3 but he can receive letters around week 2 so start writing. Keep your letters newsy, encouraging and loving. Don't tell him you're worried about him, that will only make him feel bad. Remember he's got enough to contend with without hearing that his mom is worried sick. So, stay calm, be assured that the Navy is taking good care of him and that if anything was wrong you would have heard already.

just what Chris said "No News Is Good News" actually it's GREAT news They are taking very good care of him.

Even when you hear from them via letter it is never enough for us moms. I wrote every day starting the day my daughter left and kept it up all during boot camp. I agree about keeping the letters upbeat and encouraging. I wrote about how everyone was doing at home and what was going on in the area. I also let her know always how proud we were of her. No news IS good news. BC turned out to be a breeze for her.
Have you received any info yet as to what ship your son on? My son left on the 17th & nothing yet but I do see others that already have their info. I am so anxious!

I can feel your frustration.  My son left for BC 2/8, and other than just a quick call, nothing.  Im so used to talking and texting anytime we want, its hard being cut off.  It was explained to me how it would be though, and this is normal.  Just putting all my energy into old fashioned letter writing is helpful; lots of letters, cards, pictures

Anyone out there have a son due to graduate 4/8?
