OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Project Darkhorse
"Darkhorse" is the name given to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, the most highly decorated regiment in the Marines. These young men are currently serving in Afghanistan. There are five companies in this battalion and this represents a large number of Marines who would appreciate any love we can send their way.
Weapons Company received several care packages in December and then HAE moved on to Lima Company. When all have finished up mailing their boxes, Lima Company will be put to "bed." The next, and probably last company, we will do is Kilo Company. There are about 170 Marines in this group, all males. The mailing date for Kilo Company is February 7. This should give us enough time to get sufficient pillowcases ready for mailing. As with every project, we need to have sufficient pillowcases for each Marine in the company to receive one.
For OPSEC reasons, I would appreciate your letting me know via PM (make me a friend on N4M if I am not already one) the number of pillowcases you will send in your box.
Sue sent me this "Semper Fi" poster. I watched the video about the Marines in Bethesda. The attitude of the Marines who have suffered terrible injuries is absolutely amazing. Here is a link with a video of Kilo Company.

I put together 3 boxes so quick today I didn't take any photos! But each box was filled to capacity with granola bars, fruit cup cans, peanut butter crackers, gum, small veggie cans and tunafish packets for those health conscious ones, fruit snacks, cookie packs and whatever else I could squeeze in them!

Do you still need another box of goodies? If so, I will put one together on Sunday when I'm back home. do we have mostly snacks right now? should I do more snacks or toiletries? or mix still ok?
I've sent most of my stash to the Lincoln and some on to Teri and Sue. But I will get some fabric and get back to work. Would love to get some females too on this shipment if there's enough. some of the fabric has been so fun but definitely girlie. But general is ok for me too. Just anxious to let this group know we're here for them.

Natalie, I would love to have another box sent. A mix is fine and I am sure will be much appreciated. I am like you, it will be so good to let them know we are thinking about them. I will be getting things tomorrow to send as well. I also need to get some fabric to work on Lima Company's pillowcases. I have not yet heard back about the females. Perhaps I embarrassed the nice corporal when I explained why we wanted to know about females ... not only for feminine pillowcases but also for feminine products.

I have 3 scarves that I can send right now and some snacks that I bought for my son and am not sending him. he'll be home next month. I have toileteries too.

I have not heard back from my Darkhorse contact about females but I have been busy doing detective work. As I understand it female Marines are not allowed to be in the Infantry. In one posting, a gunny said it was not that the females couldn't do the work, because they are well enough trained to do it. The problem was more in the fact that the type of Marines that tend to go into Infantry would want to protect the females. This would mean that they might not be as effective in doing their jobs. So I suspect that we will not be sending female pillowcases or feminine products.

I placed a call to Alltravelsizes.com to inquire about the possibility to have their shipping department put the Heads At Ease labels on the boxes they ship for us. They directed me to e-mail their customer service department, which I did. I'm waiting to hear back if they can indeed add Heads At Ease to the outside of the boxes they ship for us. I'll keep everyone informed on what their response is.
